Vincent d'Indy : Symphonie sur un chant montagnard français for piano and orchestra Op. 25 (1886)

Aka the Symphonie Cevenole, this Romantic beauty was the first and, at the time, only composition by d'Indy with which I was familiar. I recall that, in the very early 1970s, there seemed little else by him available apart from possibly Wallenstein and Istar. Sometimes I tend now to take it for granted but, this morning, it's been a joy awakening to such a lovely piece, piano arpeggios and all! Ciccolini, Baudo and the Paris Orchestra turn in one seriously sumptuous performance. Thanks for the upload........

Morning Max, completely the opposite for me; it's a piece I knew nothing about and had not heard of before this upload and what a wonderful work it is. A lovely warm EMI recording too.

God, Tony, I can't recall the LP (or label) I had this on but it would have been about 1972 or1973. It would also have been an LP with works by other composers as well. I'd been eating up everything by Debussy and Ravel from 1969 (on top of all the folk-cum-acid rock I was listening to in those days). Roussel, d'Indy and Pierne were other French composers I came across a bit later, as the 70s got under way.

I had heard this piece some years ago and this performance has reminded me how good it is. Vincent d'Indy is worthy of further exploration.

This was my first exposure to this composer, and Istar not long afterward, but the following I came upon pretty quickly: Suite in the Olden Style, for two flutes, string quartet and trumpet. Trio for clarinet, cello and piano. Chansons et Danseuses, for woodwind septet. All three of these I highly recommend.

Malheureusement Cela est si peu ecouté et pourtant c est Sublime , nul besoin de chercher si loin , ce que l on a si proche . Une Constellation étoilées dans un Univers de bêtises et de niaiseries .
