As a musicologist I advocate that these folksongs which are untouched by Spanish music styles (unlike Bahay Kubo, Pandanggo sa Ilaw, etc.) should be popularized and be brought to greater awareness to the rest of the Phils.

This might be a weird place to say it, but I'm a writer who's married to a Filipino girl who's really knowledgeable on the traditions and cultures there. Reading about their culture and mythology and traditions really gave me tons of inspiration for a story I'm writing. Seeing how underappreciated this aspect of the Philippines is, especially around the world, really gave me a drive to put some of it into my work. So many interesting things were lost due to the imperialism. I'm here doing research for my stories and I hope to one day do my part in sharing the life and world of these beautiful people. Cheers.
@linagarett4 жыл бұрын
@@Deadflower20xx Holy moly! That's amazing to hear. I wonder what kind of story you'll cook up? And yes.. it is unfortunate that so much of our pre-colonial era was totally destroyed/distorted by the Spaniards. To this day, even the normal Filipino (including myself) knows vaguely about our native origins. Which makes it even lovely to hear that someone is interested in investing in it. I hope to see your works in our local media soon.

@@mennmenny9182 exactly. Stop the homogenisation of Filipino cultures in to a singular cultural identity. We never had it, even under the colonial regimes. At the moment, there is a heavy bias in manufacturing (that's exactly what's happening) this identity on lowland, Christian ethnic groups from Visayas and Luzon, especially that of Tagalog culture, at the expense of the varied smaller ethnic groups. This unnatural homogenisation and wanton disregard of ALL our heritage, is what will kill off the traditions and culture of the smaller ethnic groups. Banawe terraces are crumbling, tribal groups are switching to western clothes, Tausug or Aeta begging in cities etc etc. 400 hundred years of colonial governance and these identities survived. We've done more amongst ourselves, since independence, in destroying our own heritage... Rant over.

Y'all need to stop bringing down one Filipino culture to compliment another. Tboli culture is just one of many in our country. Diversity is a strength of the Philippines and not every Filipino identifies with this (because it's a specific tribe). Many identify with the post colonial culture and that's okay. It's still Filipino culture and we made it our own, it's not "fake" Filipino culture. The difference is that the video is indigenous culture. Also calling it "Spanish alien sounds" sounds like xenophobia 😭. Influences from different cultures happens everywhere, whether it be through negative events such as colonization or more natural causes such as migration. Rejecting post colonial culture is like rejecting most of the country today and is being "purist" and again not everyone identifies with indigenous culture. We can embrace our roots by accepting the diversity we have. I personally love all the cultures we have. I'm a big fan of vintage filipinianas and I'd love to have a collection of indigenous textiles as well. ❤

The hymns make me a bit sad. The Philippine islands along with many other indigenous Austronesian tribes from Taiwan and descendants actually gave us a unified identity. Now that it's been ripped up into parts on a map, our language has been separated into small remote locations from islands to islands. Just hope the musicality and heritage will get more online publicity, and that there'll be more people to continue this legacy.

this is the case for most of the world especially the global south. all colonised peoples have a shared struggle and this extends beyond Austronesia. The Western powers seek to keep us ignorant and divided

Hello! I'm a filipino producer. I would like to ask permission to use this music for a remake? I mean, is that okay? I wanted to make an electronic music inspired from filipino tribal music. Thank you!

hello Rigoginn, sure, you can use such a material if you keep using the Creative Commons licence - allowing then people to also re-use your work outside of the commercial circuit. you can find the entire recordings here - petitesplanetes.bandcamp.com/album/tboli-o-music-from-the-southern-philippines

Good day sir! I'm a Filipino producer from Davao del Norte, and as being a proud Filipino, I'm very much interested in having the vocals of a Mansaka singing and put it over to one of my tracks. I would be happy if you let me do so. Thank you!

the key too a very long happy life is to share big or small, no matter what you can share just share, the amount really does not matter, just share, with all, and you'll see something Jesus seen and his father see for all the people to see of the lands around the wourld we as people all share, i know its hard to believe,as i find it to, but many days just before sleep, i always have time for the only father and the son jesus, and the sprite that both gave us all to calm us and just be our, selfes, together to worth all GOD AND jesus
