Interesting episode, I like those individual touches. Also, compare the frame to the 6 year older BMC Timemachine Road (TMR01). Looks like hidden front callipers and seat stay mounted ones are still acceptable. Except that the BMC ones look just slightly more accessible. On that note, here’s an idea for an episode: compare a couple of common (old and/or new) aerodynamically optimised bikes and rate how easy they are to work/live with. That would suit your channel perfectly, and I think many who own an aero bike wants to know what the others struggle with too.

i use that quick release on my tri bike. even when it's super tightened, all you need is an 8mm allen key or the tool on one side and you can hold the other side with your fingers. 99% of riders keep at least an allen key of some sorts so not a big deal. but it's super sleek and aero AF!

Actually, some aero testing has found that bladed spokes are not measurably faster than round spokes. However, the spokes do change in thickness as you go towards the center so I think they might actually be ovalized spokes. Would make sense looking at how the rest of the bike is meticulously put together.

I keep seeing that wider tyres - 28mm say - offer lower rolling resistance, which I would have thought was a significant issue on a TT bike. What are the trade-offs of narrower (23mm) tyres vs wider (25-28mm) on a TT bike, and how does that affect rim width choice?

23mm tyres are fastest - Corsa Speed
@janwillemkuilenburg75615 жыл бұрын
If the road deck is smooth, the 23 mm are faster if you inflate to a higher pressure. Besides, the wider internal widths of current rims make 23 mm tyres widen up to 25 mm.

This Bike would just be expensive trash if fairing and recumbents are allowed. I thought UCI didn't allow fairings, did they change their mind? if not, hat bike is illegal. And at what price? Surely we would ensure fairness, but if a good racing recumbent bike cost around 5,000 USD and velomobiles costing around 10,000 USD, and are surely faster in most TT and T2 courses, why UCI and ITU are banning them? The price of this bike with all those tech surely costs more than that, probably double or triple
@taufikabidin4125 жыл бұрын
@@ska042 I get the point, but to what point ? The regulation are stiffling Innovation and Wedgies are more dangerous as it is painful (wrist, neck, back and butt), put the head upfront (serious risk if crashing) and there have been reported genital problems (erectile dysfunction and Vagina swelling). Meanwhile, the value for the price isn't there. In terms of economics, aerodynamics and ergonomics, Recumbent and fairing makes sense. It's always funny debating cyclists, many citing injustice done to Obree and Lotus, while not acknowledging Mochet an Faure. And the media reflects that too, Keep quiet about recumbents as sponsors don't want that. They do know many racing bents are up for grabs right? Velokraft VKII, Nocom and ultracom as the company has stopped making them, Windcheetah designed by Mike Burrows where the company has problems, Challenge also has problems. Many big bike companies can just takeover. And remember, the modern road bikes are here thanks to a bent enthusiast. Mike Burrows, who designed TCR and Lotus, is a BHPC (British Human Power Club) founder. And remember UCI banned Lotus and was going to ban TCR. Why don't you lot just race those round tube bikes, and have UCI ban those aero tubes. isn't it about the rider, not the bike?
@jonnythelegs25975 жыл бұрын
Top end fully faired recumbents cost far more than top end TT bikes this bike would be in the region of 10 grand the only out of the ordinary part on it is the crank and other than the frame set being the most up to date version which will be released in a few months everything else is standard gear with minor mods. You could take it far further with Berk composites, dash cycles, and wattshop custom made finishing kit. Don't get me wrong recumbents make absolute sense from an aerodynamics standpoint and on flatter roads velodromes and straight descents are way way faster but they are still considered to be a niche area of cycling they will almost certainly gain more popularity once cars get more and more phased out and excluded from citys. Those brakes are integrated in to the forks and the chainstays are thereby using the structural elements of the frame albeit shaped as best they can to act as fairings so they kinda stick within the rules, but there are very small fairings like those on the Pinerello that don't really. But skinsuits and aero helmets are technically aerodynamic aids and against the rules. Basically the UCI set the rules manufacturers can push them as far as possible but if they think you're taking the piss the UCI will step in and call a halt. Just like it's been in F1 over the years. If your competitors get an edge on you don't get angry and start bitching get even, until the governing body gets involved sod it, it's game on let's ride.
@taufikabidin4125 жыл бұрын
@@jonnythelegs2597 Probably, even a basic stock of a racing recumbent, which costs around 5000 would beat this bike. Which is why it already don't make sense if we want some kind of baseline. I don't consider Recumbent a niche, as there is clearly a market for it. People who want to go faster, who want to be free from pain and genital disease, people who want to be more comfortable, and people who want to be more safe. But who knows? who knows about it if all the media give is what their sponsors give? Who knows the fastest bicycle one hour record is held by Francesco Russo on 92.43 km? Who knows the fastest bicycle without drafting is Aerovelo ETA with ~140 km/h? Who knows the winner of trans America 2018 was on a velomobile? And why do these bikes which are clearly inferior in eco, ergo, aero and safety are at the olympics, which one of its motto is faster? Let's ride? how? How can we ride together if bents are discriminated and can't get into many rides. even social ones? we aren't allowed to race either side by side, be it by UCI or ITU. yes, even triathlon who always claim they re the cutting edge of bike tech.

@@taufikabidin412 mate, don't get too hung up on it they're just different areas of human powered sport in the same way a le mans car is different to a touring car. Fear not though , i'm not clueless to recumbents when I lived in London I was chums with the guys at Bikefix i used to help out and had many many late nights and good times there including having some rather lengthy conversations with Mr Burrows. I've have ridden a few including some Mike creations, Stuart was always trying to convince me to race them and i still have a bit of banter with John Williams from time to time. Yeah they're faster machines but they're different machines and have their own racing scene, personally I'll ride anything human powered and have a big grin on my face and there's nothing to stop us riding together and having some fun. @@taufikabidin412 The regulations are there a) so we consumers can get tech that's close enough to the pros that we can be competitive without it being pay to win and b) to maintain the safety of riders so frame design doesn't become who makes the thinnest tubes. So yes, to some extent, at the professional end, the gadgetry is rent seeking one-upmanship, but the regulations are there for a reason. If enough people wanted the sport to move on, it would. But there isn't reason to. If people really wanted to see the vehicles that went the fastest, they'd stick an engine in them and it becomes motor racing.
