It was an amazing time to be alive. You had The Specials, Madness, SKA, Punk (The proper stuff not the pop stuff nowadays) Heavy Metal, New Romantics, Indie and so much more all over the place and seeing all these bands on TV and live was just amazing :) :)

I'm 58 I was at the recording of the first LP in Fulham my mum worked at the launderette above the studio,got Elvis Costello's autograph,I wasn't aware of the band but they were lovely and definitely different,I had a tonic jacket which they said was cool ,I had a damned badge on the lapel ,and wore the jacket as it was passed down from a Jamaican lady's boys down our street,Sunday suits but proper mohair tonic one suit blue and green the other orange and brown which was smaller so wore both for a few years, looking back I was very lucky although we didn't have a penny It was amazing growing up in west London ❤🇬🇧

Man that is so good! I loved The Specials from the first time I heard them in the late 70s. Never saw them live though. This is amazing! What a show that was. So wonderful musically and beyond.

I saw the 2Tone Tour (Specials, Madness and the Selecter) at Tiffany’s, Sauchiehall St, Glasgow in 1979. Best gig I’ve ever attended- The Specials were electric (as can be seen here).

Combing ska with punk to create 2 tone was a brilliant to demonstrate unity between races. It launched bands like Madness, The Specials, The Selector, Bad Manners and The Beat.
