There is one important aspect to this KS campaign that you did not address in the video. The green all-in pledge comes with a 40 dollar shipping discount, which the other pledge levels do not. This effectively puts the green pledge at 189 dollars. It is also a factor to consider if you compare the base game orange tier plus some add ons and the all-in green pledge.

Hello Alex, So now that the pledge manager is out, there is green tier+hamlet for 229+24=253 vs the all-in which has sleeves for all cards for 283. Is the 30$ for all sleeves a reasonable sum? Or would sleeve king still be your favorite?

The issue with Vindication is the card size, Sleeve Kings does not offer the correct sizing. I'm not sure if other companies offer the correct size for the square cards. Also you are looking at nearly 600 cards which comes out to $5 per 100 sleeves, which is almost twice as much as Sleeve Kings. However I would say $5 per 100 is pretty standard pricing and if you look for the sleeves elsewhere you will probably end up paying the same price. Sleeve Kings is just a really good price. I will personally be going with the all in since I know the sleeves will fit correctly and I don't have to track down the right sizes. It will probably end up costing the same amount in the end.

Backed day one for base game, and considering World Box. I don’t sleeve cards, and I hate picking up unsleeved cards off cardboard game boards, so the neoprene mat is great for me (if this game requires picking up cards off the board).

@@BoardGameCo I hate the extra cost for mats, transporting, and storing them. Also resale on those is very hit or miss (sometimes the aftermarket is crazy good and sometimes you have to give it away for free). My wife 💕 them, so now I’m switching up to getting mats, when available to games I think she’ll like to play. The only exception is I skipped the mats of Chronicles of Crime Millenium because you play through those games once and I hope she doesn’t notice that I skipped the mats. She changed my view of mats to be now just another deluxification like metal coins. I’d gladly give up shelf space for them.

My biggest worry is that chronicles is adding theme by sacrificing flow. Adding a story and choice sounds awesome, but one of the things I like about Vindication is how turns go by somewhat quickly. Adding in text to read and a choice adds time and breaks that flow a bit. Maybe if the story can be read during the downtime between turns? Idk, I'm in, I'm just wondering if it'll add positively to the game.

Main reason why I'm not backing Chronicles. Base game is so smooth that I haven't even played my copy of L&A due to increased complexity and teach. Plus I can't bring myself to pay $13 shipping for a $29 expansion. I'm gonna wait for retail and maybe sell L&A by then.

Base game gives you all that you'll need for awhile. Chronicles will mix that up and add narrative...imo everything else is just gravy :) Good Gravy...but gravy.

The game delivery is expected in 13 months. That means the real delivery will be at least 1.5 years from now. And it looks like all that I would miss is getting a free pack of promos. It sounds like a fun expansion but it will probably be available in normal retail for at least a few months so I can't see why I should back it now instead of holding on to my money for 1.5 years and probably saving about $17. Is the promo pack really worth that much?

It depends on the end game, their last KS's have been a better value on KS by enough to balance out shipping, the question is the price point on this expansion which will likely be higher in retail.

Just got Vindication + L&A expansion (haven't opened yet since it's a Christmas gift from my wife). Looking forward to playing over the holidays. Will probably go ahead and back Chronicles as well. Had a question regarding add-ons... Just considering whether to spring for the sleeves in the add-on section or not. I'm wondering if you use SleeveKings 70mm x 70mm sleeves on your copy? If so, do they fit OK and do cards fit in box/trays with the sleeves? Have read a few comments elsewhere that 70x70 sleeves are loose/sloppy. Thanks!

I have Ultra Pro on my copy and I use Sleeve Kings on nearly every other game, I’d be shocked if there is much an issue. Currently I was able to fit everything (minus the KS1 Tuuk Tuuk mini) sleeved in the base box and (and I have an old post on BGG). They designed the original box for a lot of promo card space even sleeved at 100 microns so it should be fine for 60 micron Sleeve Kings. I don’t think it will work for the Chronicles expansion. They are doubling the card count vs the original base game and are introducing a new card size (I haven’t looked if there is a matching SleeveKings packet for it).

@@tychay Thanks for the reply and info! I had also looked at Ultra Pro. Are you using their standard sleeves or the Ultra Pro Lite? The reason I ask is that the standard Ultra Pro ones are around 2x the ones from O Nebula in the KS but they match the size shown in KS. Also just interested in which you use / recommend. Sleeve Kings (70x70) are 1/2 the price of the ones from O Neb but are 1mm bigger than 69x69. So, deciding between UP and SK, it's a question of cost vs fit/quality.

@@JohnClem56 Mine were Ultra Pro, not the lite version. I picked them up from my FLGS before I started using SleeveKings, and, because of that, I can't comment on SleeveKings for Vindication (but I do use them nearly everywhere else and they are great). Once you start sleeving a game with a certain brand, you're pretty much stuck using that brand so that the cards are consistent. My copy of the game is at my previous company right now so I can't do any comparisons atm. I have heard that there can be issues with loose fit at 70x70 so that may be an issue for you. I believe the cards were measured to be 68x68mm. I've not seen ONeb's sleeves yet, but I imagine they'll be similar in quality to Ultra Pro (a cut above in thickness to SleeveKings). They would have chosen something that would fit exactly. That would explain why they are 2x expensive. Typically 100micron sleeves are $2.50 for 50 instead of $2.50 for 110 (SleeveKings). You could try pinging again on this thread to see if people had issues with the brand boardgamegeek.com/thread/2091918/article/33484427#33484427

@@tychay Thanks for the info, it's good to know. You are correct about the ONeb sleeves -- they are 100 micron thick just like the Ultra Pro. SleeveKings are 60 micron. I'd be OK with the slightly reduced thickness but just don't want them to be too loose. The ONeb ones won't be available until their current KS for Chronicles ships (Jan 2022) so not really a solution for my current game. Will check out the thread you linked above. Really appreciate the info and you taking the time to reply!

Vindication is on Kickstarter for the FOURTH time not the third. The very first time it didn’t fund. What a long and winding road. 13:15 you might get the add on of Chronicles if you want to get the base game and add on Chronicles. The reverse isn’t possible because the base game is not an add on, only a pledge tier. 14:25 My thinking is you and Jesse should do a kickstarter then ask Tom if ON will contribute a promo pack for the fundraiser.

Now, This will surely help me make my mind. I have the all-in from the previous expansion, so I need to know how much should I go into this campaign. ...And,.. I think I will have to figure out how much can I afford after the current expansion itself, because adding story makes it sound a bit like it will be possible to create a personal story along the way and that sounds amazing with this game! The fact that it's not a campaign or legacy module, makes it even better because it will be possible to get (maybe some rather limited) modules of stories in the game, but that would completely round up the experience for me. They could afford to subsidise that before, because they're cutting out the distributor / retailer. That hasn't changed, they've just taken the excuse to pass the cost on instead. Almost certainly makes it better to wait for retail, you'd need to throw in a *lot* of KS exclusives + freebies to bridge that gap for me.

I’d recommend the reverse. They aren’t games to be compared (Unsettled and ISS Vanguard maybe), so the constraint is obviously financial/timing of two big December board game crowd funds. In that regard, Vindication can already be played on Tabletopia, has a cult following, and is likely to be available later in a future kickstarter (big box plus a final expansion) as well as through resellers. The catch up costs seem pretty baked in at this point (about 15% extra at most delta savings in a single shipping and handling ). Awaken Realms bundles a lot of exclusives with their Kickstarters and have only resurrected one of them so far (Nemesis). If you change your mind between waves, it’s pretty easy to find someone who wants to buy out your second wave. If you miss it, catching up can be quite painful.

when the bundle was 120 shipped and everything was sold out for a year, I think it resold well. At 230 and the difference being mainly promos, I think you'll see people get pretty hosed there. I'm also pretty sure if you dip below the 230 level you'll see it retail without the 15 card pack with free shipping and possibly a small discount. bad backs all around unless you want it now and are just instant backing from the stomach. on the world box: you missed a fairly big module in it from your description, it includes die cut boards that let you use your excess pets for different actions. that's much bigger content than a promo pack.

I can't guarantee it's balanced...but I can tell you with no question that in every game we've played, when someone said "you got that overpowered card" that person never won. Never. Not rarely. Never. So I'll hold my tongue there :)

It’s balanced in a manner similar to Glory to Rome in that if you find the right combination of cards, you can have a runaway victory and the game is designed with those opportunities. I haven’t found any card to be overpowered post rules clarification/changes after they updated 4 in the second kickstarter. But I found it is easier for players to spot a relic-based engine than a trait or monster based one. There are some games, due to randomization of setup, where a perfect engine can be available with no ability to stop, and, if players aren’t experienced, the others won’t see the need to gang up on them (it is a euro, it’s not obvious when someone might have a runaway victory). In that way, some game plays might be unbalanced.

I find the game super swingy. My first play was stacked in one player's favor. The next play wasn't so perfectly aligned for a single player from the start, but there was definitely a runaway leader problem. I'm not sure I'd call it unbalanced per se, but the randomness can certainly make any particular play of it feel that way.

Love this game. Already own the base and just backed chronicles for sure. Now to agonize over the add-ons. I passed on leaders and alliances last time and im still on the fence. My wife disliked the base game saying it was samey turn to turn and she didnt get why you were doing what you were doing ie thematic disconnect. Im hoping chronicles will fix that.but I still don't see LA changing anything enough, just adding more stuff to a game ive barely scratched the surface.on content wise. Does that seem like a fair assessment?

Do words have any meaning any more? :) Vindication means that everyone else thought you were wrong but you persevered and you were eventually proven right. What they describe is redemption. Redemption means that you were a wretch but had a transformation and were cleansed of your past transgressions and you changed your ways. Of course, the game probably wouldn't have sold as many copies if it had been called "Redemption" and I guess you aren't forced into being altruistic in order to win the game...
