One time I had a mood for nosferatu so I watched it and like "yeah its a dumb idea but what about a game?" And then I found it and it was on sale for like 0.5 dollars so I tried it out and it was like the best thing ever I have played many new games that were like "look low poly and vhs filter pretty spooky" but this is so much better and it was made in 2003 it's so strange It still not only focusing on the horror aspect but it has just enough to make me jump every time the "death clarinet!" plays It has some bugs and one glitch I can't seem to get fixed so I feel like the wounded monk now I know I just threw it all out right now but I really need to say this to someone who actually knows what am I talking about (sorry)

This was something I was always aware of and wanted to try out, but literally just you posting this stream up finally got me to actually buy it. Considering I got it for under 1€ off Steam, I'd say this game is well worth it. I like alot of older horror games. I dunno. There's something about newer horror games that don't quite rub me right. I guess it's just kinda the excess of it all. They've gotten so over the top about trying to disturb you that it ends up becoming more ridiculous, like with the Outlast games. There's good stuff still coming out, but horror games have adapted some less than flattering conventions and returning to this game, it made me realize just how much milage you can get out of something not quite scary and disturbing, but rather just spooky and quaintly moody.

I just hope he uses the GOG one (btw kinda nitpicky but GOG no longer is GoodOldGames since 2012, since they accept newer games now, mostly indie). The GOG version includes the actual soundtrack as a disk image, althou ya need to apply a small fix for the timing, ya can find it at PCGamingWiki.

You mean the "Ultimate Quake" patch? It's garbage as the source port that is included is veeery outdated, while the Scourge of Armagon soundtrack from it is just badly ripped and DarkPlaces is just not a good choice. Either QuakeSpasm or vkQuake (Quakespasm in Vulkan) since almost every mod was made for this (Cept Nehahra, you need either Mark V, DarkPlaces or use the source port included). Having a disk image is a much better choice as you can just mount em and rip the tracks into any format that the source port supports. I have em all on FLAC format and it sounds miles better than anything you find on the web in terms of quality.

I agree with you Joel on the horror movies. Saw and Hostel are just snuff films parading as horror. A movie is supposed to be fun, and all they care about is jump scares, brain dead characters and gore for the sake of gore. I honestly hate horror movies, love horror games, because then it is you fighting to survive, facing fears and kicking ass. That's the point of horror, to show you scary things, but by the end you overcome them. So much modern horror wants to leave you paranoid to go to the bathroom or have sex, till you can't function anymore.

Manawolfman What's your take on cosmic horror? I don't necessarily think the point of horror is to be overcome because that sounds like an action film or superhero film more than it does horror. Though horror can be fun, I don't think it's a criteria necessarily. Just depends on what your looking for when you spend your time watching a movie.
