I do think Diablo 2 is the better game than Diablo 2. There's a little bit of that atmosphere in Diablo 2 that is still the best, even though Diablo 2 has great atmosphere on it's own, the music, the vibe, the mood and all that stuff. Did I say Diablo 2 is better than Diablo 2? Well, I mean Diablo 1. Diablo 2 is obviously better than Diablo 2, but, you know what I mean.

27:10 Bro... i'm so glad Joel admitted having trouble with Duriel and basically needing an IV drip and teleport spam in Act 2, I thought it was just me being a scrub and I always felt really bad about not being able to kill that boss ten years ago (I kept dying and it was embarrassing so I gave up-- I only beat Duriel like two years ago as an hybrid summon/elemental druid). There's a lot of hardcore players who know all the strats but man I can't get into the technical stuff, I tried, it just sucked the fun out of the game for me, listen, i just wanted to collect gold and gems with the horadric cube and summon a bunch of wolves. im a simple person, casual is fine for me. thank you for saying that on stream man

Duriel is definitely a huge step up from Andariel in difficulty. The bastard hits like a freight train and has his cold aura. Additionally, the boss room is very small compared to all the others, so no matter what class fights him, a bad time is sure to ensue.

@vahlok14264 жыл бұрын
Of course Joel picked the Necromancer. And I approve. My favorite class ever is the Diablo Necromancer, because they defy all the tropes. They're not evil, but instead value the balance between life and death, they openly wish to help others and seek evil to destroy, and they are considered more legitimately good than even Paladins since they're more of zealous warriors who force others to worship their gods. Love Diablo Necros.

Since it was briefly brought up about halfway through the stream, remember not to form parasocial relationships with popular streamers! They are usually charismatic and good at keeping a flow of conversation and happy to entertain you while you're working out or doing the dishes, but they have their own lives and their own friends. In the same sense, you are not friends with movie actors just because you've seen their work. Befriend other 'regular' people in your own life, it's much healthier in the long run.

In older versions of Diablo 2 you could easily have 40 skeletons alone since the skill gave you 1 more skeleton per level (On more recent patches it's 1 skeleton per level for the first 3 levels and 1 skeleton per 3 levels afterwards.). But those skeletons were disgustingly weak so if you tried fighting any boss... or even elite mob with an AoE they'd just melt instantly leaving you alone against whatever wiped out your skeletons. And since you are probably minmaxed into summoning you better run and rebuild that army. Thankfully that was patched out and skeletons had their quality-quantity slider moved towards quality.

Doubt Joel is going to read this but the Clay Golem is the only one worth using. They all do garbage damage (unless you're dumb enough to sacrifice a good item to make an iron golem) but the Clay Golem has the most life and it has a slowing effect on its hits with no real downside unlike the other golems' secondary effects.

I remember getting Diablo 3 and playing it so much with my dad on our Xbox One that we got the Necromancer DLC, and I saw how good it was compared to all the other classes. Then, when I got so good at the game, I made a character out of all the classes, eventually got all the green challenges perfect, got the emerald dragon wings, and was so powerful that on certain higher difficulties I killed everything from just walking into a room. Diablo as a whole makes you feel like you're making progress no matter how many times you go through the game.

Joel if you want to, try checking out Path of Diablo, it's Diablo 2 but all the skills are rebalanced to be more viable. Basically every single build is viable with it, and some characters have some extra skills, some have skills replaced. Example: Necro has a teleport that works on cooldown and a mana cost, isn't spammable unless you max it out, Sorceress' first Cold Shield spell is replaced with a level 1 cold version of Enchant/Enflame, that imbues normal attacks with cold damage, and reduce enemy defense called Fridgerate. Also it has more endgame content, basically gigantic levels with super powerful items, basically designed as an alternative to Uber Tristram, among a bunch of other additions. It's basically Diablo 2.1

You'd think summoner necro build would be the best solo class but he's pretty hard to finish the game with solo in my opinion, skeletons die too easily, especially against bosses because most of them have hard hitting aoe abilities that will decimate your skelly buddies and your resources to create more skellies is relying on there being corpses around, which is a limited resource in itself. Too often you end up relying on your golem since he's a free summon without much restrictions but without skeletons to support you, your damage is pretty low and bosses can be a massive slog
@TheRaiko7774 жыл бұрын
Yeah, skeles way too squishy without investing a crap ton into which still falters against bosses and leave you without much to fight with. Golem with bone magic and Amp Damage is the easiest way I know to play him, even though early game mana consumption is still a chore.

Necromancer is the single best class in the game in my opinion. I love em', it's so silly having a million tweaked-out skeletons spazzing all over the stage. They're also the best fit for singleplayer, I feel. Like Joel mentioned with the Duriel fight, the game gets way too insane in terms of just hammering you down in nanoseconds, having at least a slight ability to throw around skellies to draw aggro is immensely helpful. Spells like confusion and blind are also invaluable tools for some of the mobs in the second half of the game as well. Just overall, if you're flying solo, Necromancer just does so much to help alleviate that. So much so that I haven't actually tried the other classes to any serious degree. I suppose it's high time I tried that at some point. Even though I have never seen Diablo 2 to completion, I do understand and whole-heartedly agree with Joel on some of the latter half of the game getting stupid in a slightly unfun way. I may not have gotten there with Diablo 2 yet, but I feel that with my experiences of beating Diablo 1 earlier this year. By the time I finally reached Hell in D1, it took me almost half the time I had spent on the game before that just trying to get through what really was a short romp, because holy shit does the game lose it's damn mind at that stage. The entire time I spent in Hell was just this endless cycle of abusing A.I, warping back to town after every mob and save scumming every time I sneezed. Pussyfooting my way through hell was among the more arguous tasks I've done in a video game since the days of filling out achievements for Binding of Isaac, but it was nice to finally cap off that nearly decade-long project.

That's why you pirate and play on unofficial servers if you want multiplayer, that's still an option.

@@DiabolicCrusher if activison blizzard goes out of buisness tommorow, they'll know who to blame. I don't have the guts to STEAL from Kotik's retirement fund like that.

So far, the last patch didn't do much to give Blizzard too much control, but it did break a couple of good mods. If you can get a pirated version of Diablo 2 1.4d version, you should be all set.

Fond memories of finding Diablo 2 on my uncle's computer, gambling away all of his maxed-out cash in the first area and constantly taking his character out for a stroll, dying and reloading. It's been nearly two decades and our relationship is still extremely strained.

Man, the countless hours during my high school days playing on bnet with my brother, grinding SoJs to buy a cool Hellslayer for my Barbarian, doing Pindleskin/Baal runs for rare stuff...Never got into the more complex things they added later, but easily one of my favorite games. Kinda want to boot it up again...

man the music in this game really reminds me of worlds.com, and im not really sure why. something about its prerendered setting, and moody guitar riffs reminds me of the oddly retro-dystopian world of late 90s virtual worlds. Or i could just be a fucking stupid lol
