I started the advance collection about a week ago. Started with Dracula X, which was fun and short. Now I’m on circle of the moon. I’ve held off watching these archives because I fear the spoilers. I gotta say, it’s been fun genuinely getting lost and accidentally sequence breaking. Like, I beat Camilla before facing the zombie dragons, and the Camilla fight at a very low level is hard af, especially after taking initial damage from the tainted water in the previous rooms.

CotM was the first Castlevania I played and beat and I really enjoyed it, the DSS in particular. I plan to play the extra modes you unlock beating the game. It makes me sad this game isn't canon. I thought everything in this game was solid aside from how tedious it is to get some of the DSS cards

I would love to see the DS Castlevania trilogy, Lament of Innocence and Curse of Darkness, maybe the complete N64 game. Harmony of Despair still has active players on various platforms, and Rebirth would be amazing. I don't want to risk anything new with Konami as it is currently.

hey vine try using this, when your about to give a killing hit on an enemy for a drop, make sure to save right before it hits mid animation then reload if the drop doesnt happen till you do

Personally, I consider Circle one of the WORST starting points for the series, simply because it's got an entirely unique system. Between the controls being different from others when it comes to things like abilities and equipment, and the DSS system being entirely unlike anything else, it makes going to other games VERY weird.

1:45:12 the song is from CV3 but they've changed a part of it slightly. Also: don't underestimate sliding in this game... it does as much damage as your whip so if there are enemies that you're sure you can one-shot it's way faster to just slide through 'em. Lovin' the series so far Vinny! :D

@@mccad00 The two arena cards have the same drop chance as Serpent and Venus, two very early cards. By the time you get to the arena their drop chance have got somewhat high. If you had 500 Luck, then it'd be 7.5% chance.

@@mccad00 Just checked how many enemies there are. There are 3 of each enemy for the cards, so that makes it 20.85% chance, again with 500 luck, for each card to drop at least once. Running that same number again, looking at 90% chance to have them within 10 runs. Also worth mentioning you can cheat at the end and get back in the arena to do it backwards.

That relies on entirely unrelated glitches though. I don't think there are any areas you can sequence break due to using enemies as platforms (I could be wrong of course). The major sequence break I know of (that doesn't involve using card/summon glitches) is skipping the water purifiication that you get from the citadel and running through the underground sewers spending as little time in the blood water as possible.

If you happen to read this, the secret room in the long corridor you fall from at the beginning of the game on the left hand side has *another* secret room in its roof. The mob that spawns in that room is unique, and can drop a "bear ring", but requires a certain card combo + the stopwatch item to even be able to kill. If you equip the bear ring and use Pluto + Black Dog you turn into a bear instead of a skeleton. (Not very great and very cryptic Easter egg.)

To answer your question about the BGM: Yes, the track "Aquarius" first appeared in Akumajou Densetsu/Castlevania 3. The version featured here is the second time they've used it. Also despite not being featured in "The Adventure", it was later rearranged for Rebirth.

Simon’s Quest was my first in 1989. My dad got us an NES on a Friday in October. It came with SMB/Duckhunt but he also rented Mike Tyson’s Punch Out and Simon’s Quest. Ever since that day, October belongs to Castlevania….and Michael Myers. I saw Halloween 1-3 on tv that same October since H5 was in theaters. PS: Castlevania 64 is an underrated classic.

So here’s something I figured out and it won’t work for all Castlevania games. The moment your whip kills an enemy is when the game decides if you’re getting a drop or not. So using the rewind function you can just keep going back to the last hit and see if you get the item or not.

I was too young to even know about SotN and wish I had. When I played Circle of the moon it felt like the castlevania I knew but waaay more open, I loved the combination. So I never ever understand when people put it down because it was a gateway to loving the new style for me

One of the flaws of this game is the cards themselves because they drop so rarely... you end up leveling up too much, making the game way too easy where you can brute force it like that. Common problem with Castlevania. I can remember playing this and getting next to nothing on drops, maybe nothing beside the initial two cards even.

The dagger is actually fantastic on Shooter Mode with the extra damage multiplier you get for sub weapons. And that mode lets you pick up two daggers to get a magic homing dagger.
