I’ve always though Lower Decks looked like exactly the kind of adult cartoon I would despise, and Vinny’s summary of it confirmed that for me. I’m convinced streaming services are just hiring people straight off of fanfiction websites to write their shows because a lot of them seem to have the same bad writing cliches that a lot of fanfic does.

CAGED sat in my steam library forever and Vinny's stream finally got me to play it. Difficulty gets stupid at times but it's an overall nice little one episode mod with a lot of heart. The fact that he used Lazerhawk for the soundtrack gives it huge brownie points in my book. Also I'm throwing in another vote for Poke646. Easily one of the most impressive if not the most impressive mods for Goldsrc HL. Also I remember (and I can't believe I still do) a small HL mod page called "Kevin Lockett's Black Bag Ops) waaay back in the Planet Half Life days that had some neat Opfor maps. If someone is able to track them down those are also worth a look.

i feel older games are not meant for raytracing. like the "lighting" back then was not rly considered it was baked into the textures. they didn't rly start using actual lighting until we had the tech to do so

Not entirely true, there is certainly baked in lighting, even in modern games, but doom and whatnot had dynamic lighting systems. Especially by the time you got to Quake 2

Agree, I saw the trailer and it looks kind of gross. Not in a bad way but it's visually unappealing. Something that high tech shouldn't be applied to something that was made so long ago. For experimentation, sure, but actually playing HL1 start to finish looking like that? Nah.

It feels to me that adult cartoons these days are somehow more immature than the cartoons intended for children. Is that just me?

In America at least, there are basically no cartoons intended for children nowadays. Almost all of the cartoons being made that are ostensibly intended for children are actually intended for teenagers with arrested development and adults with arrested development, and are made by adults with arrested development. To my knowledge, Teen Titans Go is the only recent kids cartoon made for children by adults, instead of being made for manchildren by other manchildren.

Crazy how that works. When there's children's cartoons that try to sneak in adult references, they have to be subtle about it and smart. If done right, it helps make the show appealing to everyone. But "adult" cartoons are just loudmouth smug 12 year olds who think shouting "FUCK" and vomiting is a punchline and it just makes me want to throw them in a woodchipper.
