Vin being Wikipedia for the first 7 minutes was good, but I still think that time when he covered like 15+ minutes of silence during a Legend of Zelda video by reading a travel brochure was his best solution. Also, nice that they got Andrew Hulshult for the music for this game. Love his stuff.

Doubt he'll see this, and it's been about a month now, but *really* hoping Vinny will revisit this and get sucked in. The progression goes far above and beyond what one expects, the unlockable powers elevate the gameplay, the levels become significantly more interesting in their procedural generation after the first few areas, each area gets a new killer music track, the variety of weapons is stellar and so many are unique and just feel damn good to use, the amount of references and homages and secrets and random events is astounding, and the dev is a legitimately cool person and interacts with streamers playing the game, even gave blessing to a smaller streamer to use official art as some of their Twitch emotes. Vinny's issue with having difficulty parsing the visual mess on screen at times is understandable, but I've found it became much less prevalent as I grew more familiar with the game. Enemies signal their presence fairly well compared to the clutter and 'gore' from dead ones, and your abilities reach such awesome heights that the combat in this video isn't very representative of what comes later-- the experience shifts and expands and after area five, six, seven, it is in a way a "whole new game" (but one that it led you into very naturally). And a lot of the confusion stems from not realizing that finishing a room can cause those "random events", which is first shown in the tutorial throwing the Trap Orb at the player. Eventually you start to see some events a second time (the glitched weapons dealer, trap orbs reversing gravity or trying to kill you with ice, money bunnies) and see reference to them in the skill tree and it all makes more sense and gets easier to deal with. Some of the most fun I've had in years, and while it may appeal to a different group of people due to some distinguishing mechanics and its blending roguelite with FPS, I think it stands with the greatest games in both genres and holds its own. Here's hoping for a Part 2.

Vinny, if you're reading this, the Amplitube thing might have something to do with your license not being activated properly. I had the same issue, with it loading up as the CS edition. Try installing Amplitube as a standalone version, going to the account page there-in, and clicking on restore purchase.

There are many retro FPS, and the vast majority are in demo or early access, and I prefer to wait until they are complete, but so many early access, it became somewhat annoying, and some have been in that state for years (I blame COVID). I love that these games are back but god I don't know what to choose.

I'm enjoying my playthrough of Nightmare Reaper quite a bit. The randomized levels and weapons are a lot of fun. There could be more variety added in there though, particularly in level modules. The minigames are fine. I like the platforming one and the Galaga themed one too. The Topaz/Pokemon one though could be improved a bit, though I need to experience with it to get a better feel for how.

Quake Champions flopped because it was built from the ground up to extract money from the player, after Rainbow Six: Siege had already established dominance over the people willing to be paypiggies for a shooter. They were late to market and treated the player like shit, so they failed. It's a shame they will pretend it was the IP that failed them, rather than the other way around!

So this is apparently Vinnys first time yea? It's been out for a few years i'm pretty sure and ch1 and ch2 are pretty fun but ch3 is when the fun gets amped up a bit. overall the game is pretty fun, there were new things releases when this game came out of development a month or so back. a definite pick up if you're into retro fps styled games. the weapons are pretty wild and wacky also there are plenty of visual easter eggs. Opinions are like assholes, everyones got one. some of you will like it and others wont.

I do think the game should probably do a better job of telling you the specialties of some of these tools. The game does increase in complexity, admittedly, and he also missed out on how much there is in the asylum itself, at least for this video. Beyond that though, you can disable the skill tree minigames in the menu.

warning to those wanting to buy this game, the performance is dog water. I have a 3080fe and have my framerate capped at 120 and was somehow getting frame drops in the early levels when theres few enemies and not a lot going on, and that was without dynamic shadows on.... with dynamic shadows I couldn't even get to 120, my gpu was actually struggling to get there, only reaching 115 and was sitting at 80c, yikes. Bare in mind I hover around 90 frames and 80c playing Farcry 6 with all settings maxed and ray tracing on, not really ideal for a game with textures that wouldn't look out of place in Minecraft and ooks like ugly mess of pixels and flashing lights to the point were it's headache inducing. The dev also has seemingly neglected these performance issues and denied their existence, also supposedly the game will be getting performance updates in the nearish future, although the games been out for like 3 years. Also the mario level crap to get upgrades is boring as hell, id actually rather watch paint dry, it probably wouldn't give me a headache.
