Watching this now, for those who've never played through this game, for whatever reason the stair physics and player input is super finicky. You'll be doing just fine and start failing, or you'll be failing and then later on start doing just fine, and you aren't really sure what you're doing differently. The problem doesn't show for most of the game, but that wheel-of-death segment has so many stair segments that the problem starts to pop up there, it seems.

If they were to do simon in the show you condence the first game to 1 episode the clocktower, death, and dracula. Then the rest is Dracula's Curse you know where Simon as people to interact with, while super powered down from where he was in the first episode.

When Vinny makes a bep about bullshit in Castlevania IV, he's 100% correct. Konami designed their early 90's titles around Blockbuster rentals -- squishing in extra enemies, removing checkpoints, upping damage values, etc. -- until every game would cost roughly $60-worth of rentals to beat. Other studios also did this, but Konami in particular went whole-hog into Nobunga territory. Medusa heads on the stairs, bouncing huge cogs outta nowhere, the old "how many skeletons spawn on the ledge" trick. Konami mastered the art of bungling to stay competitive in a dynamic market.

i might be in the minority with this, but i think the bullshit is what makes the old castlevania games so unique and fun. It just wouldn't be the same without medusa heads knocking you off and whatnot.

​@@MattyMatthew-m4o Absolutely. Konami had a knack for spicy goofs that jostled players into different playstyles and forced creative thinking. Castlevania IV might be the only game in existence to feature a "master the stairs or die" level. It's great.

I feel the same way about this kind of difficulty as I feel about a game being very grindy on purpose. Especially when it feels like most of the game's difficulty comes from the game doing its best to keep me from learning the hard parts by giving very limited attempts and by making it a long-arse chore to get to them. Like, I would never in a million years find the US version of Castlevania 3 more fun to play than the Japanese version.

Dont think we'll see beyond Trevor on Netflix. The way the stories gone they're loosely doing CV3-COD and Netflix shows dont always last super long. I'd prefer a new season new Belmont progression but I see what they're doing with Netflix and enjoying it. Season 2's 7th ep was pure gold

Played that one not too long ago too and yeah I can understand the frustration. A-1is difficult, but mostly fair, but B-2 ramps up the bullshit level absolutely high. And this is followed by the worst boss immidately after. Great game, but these two sections are the weak points right there.

The treasury room has to be my favorite level concept so far acheived in the Castlevania series. That, and the damn music is super catchy. You can tell they really had a great time making this one, and I love seeing when the devs run wild with a crazy idea and it lands.

It's extra cool because Dracula having treasure hordes is one of those tidbits supported by the novel. In the novel it mentions that on a single night of the year he can see mystical blue flames above buried treasure in the countryside, most of which is centuries old. Johnathan Harker finds a huge stockpile of treasure while he explores the castle in secret when he's held captive there.

Level B2 is like the 12th Doctor's confession dial, except the real torture is having to remember all the previous attempts. I thought SC4 was easy for the most part, largely due to memorization, which made some of Vinny's playing hard to watch. I still hate Slogra though, I shouted plenty of 4-letter words at the screen because of him.

There's a dumb thing with the jump physics where you jump further depending on the angle of the joystick and not in an intuitive way. Some Jumps are only really passable if you know that certain angled jumps go further.

Same I never found the controls bad. Compare it to other 3D action games of the time and its aged a lot better than most. Its classicvania in 3D and in classicvania you have deadly platforming w/stiff jump
