Recently replayed this on my Anbernic rg351v (Gameboy shaped emulation handheld) and the nostalgia was so overwhelming, I remember it taking me years to get all the treasures hidden throughout the game, it is a criminally underrated gem. Looks great in full colour!

It's fun to realize now as an adult how much darker Wario is than Mario, like there are human skulls and the music sounds much more foreboding. You can really see where they tried to take Wario in the beginning before he became the funny fart man we have today.

Nah, he's always been a funny fart man, even as early as Mario Land 2 and this game as well. Maybe not literally, but he's always had that certain slapstick aura. Because Wario is inherently a goofy character, his games are able to have darker elements while maintaining an overall light-hearted tone. The atmosphere can get more foreboding, but the main character will always have that stupid grin on his face throughout. Mario is more of a blank-slate character, which is why they don't really go dark with his games, because there's no underlying tone to lighten the mood. Mario 64 is arguably the darkest that the mainline Mario series has ever been, probably because its artstyle and visual design is the least 'Mario-like' of any game, so its occasional darker elements are amplified.

Wario Lands 2 and 3 are so criminally underrated. Genuinely some of the best hidden gems on the GBC. Collecting coins actually means something, awesome level design, catchy music, and tons of secrets and different endings.

Agreed, I especially like how in the future games they ditch the powerup system and instead have Wario go through different transformations by physical abuse. IE get crushed to turn into "Flat Wario", touch a ghost to turn into "Zombie Wario" etc.

In regards to the Prince thing - I worked at a Hollywood Video in Chanhassen, MN, where Prince's recording studio is, and he'd come in late at night sometimes to rent a movie (with one or two bodyguards, of course). We were legit told not to make eye contact with him, though on the second of two occasions he came in while I was working, he gave me a nod on their way out. Never said anything, but hard to say if that whole eye contact thing was just something his team of assistants told people to intimidate them, or if he actually requested that to be the case. Probably both.

When I was 6 years old, I had this game and I couldn't figure out how to damage the last boss. UHF was actually filmed in my home town of Tulsa, Oklahoma. More some reason, people think Tulsa is some po-duck town, but it's actually a medium sized city. It's generally a Yuppie town. You HAVE to have a car to get around. It's some kind of left over for when we were the Oil Capital of the World. That, and we're also known for the Race Riots or Race Massacre in 1921.

For those that might not know, Wario's first ever appearance was the final boss of "Super Mario Land 2: The Six Golden Coins" on the Gameboy. The reason why this is called "Super Mario Land 3" is partly for marketing reasons, and partly because Wario's first appearance was still in a Mario game.
