This game is an absolute masterpiece. I hope they make a sequel where you start as Richter but then play the rest of the game as that dhampir dude from Castlevania III and it plays like Super Metroid but with RPG elements.

You should, amazing classic series, you can start with one of the "classic" titles like Super Castlevania 4 on the SNES (my personal favorite), or the more "metroidvania" style games with Symphony of the Night, which is on a few consoles, though the PS version is the best imo

You should try Dracula X Chronicles too on PSP. Basically a Rondo of Blood remake with some twists. You might or might not like the graphics. I think the soundtrack is absolutely amazing and the extras are cool too. And it has Symphony and original Rondo of Blood on it too.

Yes, extras are awesome, but I actually like the remake too. I just don't like that the extra games need to be unlocked.

Nah, it wasn't harsh at all! I think it worth trying out. Graphics are a mixed thing, some people like it, some prefer the old 2D one. And it definitely looks better in higher resolution... so on an emulator. PSP's native resolution doesn't make justice. I liked what they added to the remake though. Alternative endings, some other tasks to do, etc... But for me, the highlight is definitely the soundtrack.

the new voices are mostly terrible, and in a "mediocre anime dub" way rather than sotn's original US dub's way of "ludicrously hilarious early video game dub." the new "twists" just make it shittier and more boring and the graphical quality is shit without a great artstyle to fix that. the remixed songs are half as good as the original. and the extra maria in symphony on that version sucks dick since she's not even the one from sotn like in the saturn version

Dealwithit Dewott Ah yeah, Patrick Seitz is pretty great. Norio Wakamoto (Japanese voice of Cell, M.Bison, etc etc) has played Dracula since the time of Dracula X. Did you know though around this time in 92-93, there were some drama CDs that coincided with the JoJo manga. And Wakamoto was the first actor to portray DIO back then too.

Airsh Bornely Vincent and Seitz are the official voice actors of these characters, and yes, the clips are taken from the PSP version, which is why there’s so many awkward pauses in the cutscenes.

The art of the back-turn air whip makes stage 7 significantly easier, from the bridge crossing, to the bird, and to the harpies. While jumping, you can turn around in midair without changing the direction you're moving in, and you can whip enemies behind you. And then, the cross is actually a very good option for Dracula, second only to the bible. Before I was able to hit him twice per teleport, I would whip him in the air as soon as he reappeared, then throw a cross to get rid of all 3 fireballs. Either that, or you can hit him in the head with the cross, and take care of 2 of the 3 fireballs with your whip, but that's too risky, and can be inefficient. If you want to hit him twice per teleport though, I think an example of that is available in the tactics menu. I haven't played in a while, but I think it involved hitting Dracula in the head as early as possible, jumping again, pressing forward to move slowly in midair, then whipping him again, narrowly jumping over the fireballs before they fan out, but also without running into Dracula. You had to be either 3 or 4 squares away from the center of Dracula's sprite to do this without getting hit. I couldn't find an example on KZbin. Even then, well-placed bible spam combined with well-timed whipping is the most efficient way to kill Dracula (or any boss for that matter), but that also requires you to grab a bible in or before stage 6, then get through stage 7 without dropping it or dying (which means no saving Annette if you hadn't done it already).

I'm assuming that in the original Japanese dub, the dialog between Richter and Dracula is very similar (if not identical) to how it is in the opening of Symphony of the Night. Interesting to see this completely different English translation of what I assume is the same exchange.

I don't know if the scenes with Richter in this game are a fandub, but the scenes with Dracula are definitely the dub from the official PSP remake. I'm not actually sure why they would only make some of the cutscenes have the redone dub but it's whatever.

I just got 100% file completion in rondo of blood this evening on the spookiest day of the year. It was a very good challenge, with some audible death noises from my part. I’m playing the version in the Castlevania requiem collection on the PS4 (so no savestates). I look forward to moving to symphony, even if it is the version with updated voice acting and music. It may be superior technically, but the OG charm was partially lost. Oh well.
