The halls are connected seemingly at random, you’ll get to a different room no matter how many time you go through the same door, the music is sometimes missing an instrument, some of the music is straight up from other games, I could go on. I mean, come on the map at 6:41 straight up looks like a toddler scribbled on a piece of paper, and yet that’s more than likely the actual layout of the castle in this mod.

I'm really glad b3313 is getting as much appreciation as it is because I find the gameplay genuinely really enjoyable and engaging. Not even considering the weird and creepy things that people tend to focus on there's something so enticing about just exploring the castle and finding all the different levels. A level that I found very recently is only discovered when you punch open the base of tick tock clock in the upper floor of the vanilla castle area and there is nothing indicating you can do that, which really makes me wonder what else I might have not discovered yet. I'd argue this has comparable length to Mario Odyssey in terms of all the content it has

@@derocross3545 nah, that's a different dev, not the original (chris, who you'll find in this comment section too), not only that but this "new" dev is being kind of a scumbag not respecting the wishes of the original dev and, to keep it as short as i can, you could say the unofficial "unabandoned" update is pretty much fueled by petty drama that's... not really worth following. either way v0.9 is already pretty complete as is with the only issues being duplicate star IDs, a couple unintentional crashes and the ending areas not being accessible through normal means. but because of childish harassment from this new dev, chris doesn't have motivation to continue developing officially. i'd say either be content with 0.9 as is or wait for an unofficial update coming from someone else not motivated by being a bully online.

I got curious and looked into possible updates for both the "official" and unabandoned branches and immediately noped right on out after I saw how much of a mess things are on both ends. There's a fixed version of the abandoned version out there in the wild that's done by the creator that IS NOT the unabandoned version that came out a couple months ago, so there's at least something to check into. Having played all of them, unless you're really trying to get every star, they're pretty much all the same with the exception that the unabandoned version lets you access the ending without cheats, but its not implemented correctly, so it just unceremoniously drops you into a set of post game special stages that are unfinished and, if I understand the videos I saw correctly, most of these special stages are unbeatable and will crash your game, so there isn't much more to see Its a shame that we're probably not going to see more either way, because B3313 is easily one of the most fascinating mario hacks out there, not just for mario 64

Nothing compares to how magical this hack was on a first playthrough. Felt like a personal homage to every kid who grew up on Mario 64 and dreamt fake memories of the game.

Yeah it's really cool, the games give off different vibes but at the core are quite similar. I wish this was a bit more subtle with its horror though, I feel like if they toned back some spooks it would be a lot more effective

I cannot encourage playing this yourself enough, genuinely. Getting lost inside the different layers of a maze of different castles and levels is something else, there’s a sense of unnerve to it I haven’t seen much else capture.
