Not only Vinod Khanna...Amitabh raced past ALL the "promising" young actors of the 70s. In the beginning of the 70s, the film industry placed it's bets more on other young actors like Jeetendra Navin Nischol, Anil Dhawan,etc., Vinod Khanna and Shatrugan Sinha were more famous as villains. FTII graduates were also very popular choices for filmmakers. But "Zanjeer", "Deewar" and "Sholay" upset the whole calculations made by the trade "experts". Amitabh Bachchan became the undisputed No.1 hero and the game was over for the rest of the young guys, except Jeetendra, Vinod and Shathru. Because they started their careers as villains, Shathru and Vinod took a longer time to become full-fledged heroes. From villain to side hero to main hero. That's why Vinod played second hero to Amitabh in all their films. But the fact remains that he benefitted from acting as Amitabh's co-star. In 1977, he finally became a star in his own right because of his presence in the Amitabh starrers like "Amar Akbar Antony" and "Parvarish" as well as "Inkaar" where he was the solo hero. In "Parvarish" his role was equal to Amitabh's role. Though it's true that he was unhappy with his roles in "Khoon paseena" and "Amar Akbar Antony". But the main reason for Vinod not reaching Amitabh's heights was his decision to leave his acting career at the prime of his youth. He was out of the race for 10 years, from 1977 to 1987. Opportunity does not knock on one's door twice.

I think, leaving the film fraternity and joining Osho was the biggest mistake of Vinod Khanna. Because once you leave your place it become very difficult to retain it. On the contrary, Amitabh Bachchan was very talented but he was manipulative too. Also AB was lucky enough that despite joining politics he could retain his place in the mind of people. There were other equations too!!

Pehle vinod ko diya gaya tha aur Amitabh inspector wale role the, but Vinod was insecure and finally the role went to Amitabh and the rest was history.

VK' s role in the movie was that of an angry inspector and he performed it at his best. AB's role was that of comedian type and he performed it at his best. But whenever the two appeared together VK looks more smarter and dashing than AB. Had their roles been vice versa, then also they would perform their best in their respective roles but, but VK will always be VK, no one can be compared with him.

Yes, “Qurbani” was his very superb performance in this Feroz Khan production (F.K. Films). 👍 I named my own Brother, Amar, after his outstanding role in that movie. Another excellent performance was his acting in Raj Khosla’s, “Kuchhe Dhaage”.

Vinod khanna ke 1977ke film sanyas ke faisle se woh jyadatar Osho aashram ( pune) mein hua karte thhe, uss dauran Amit ji ne Vinod ke bahut saare scene ( khaskar Amjad se zabardast fight wala) aur shammi kapoor ke style wale ek gaane ko film se katwa diya thha,iss baat se Vinod khanna amit aur prakash mehra se khafa hokar Amitji aur Prakash Mehra ke kaam na karne ki thhan li thhi..
