Here we have the last ever V train in service and it went out with a bang!

It’s crazy to believe that it’s been over thirteen years since this was filmed. Even if the (V) line was trash, thanks for recording this ancient piece of a train route. Never forget the (V). December 17th, 2001 to June 25th, 2010. One of the lines to make history of the MTA.

Can't believe we lost the V train over 10 years ago. It will be missed, although the M train has done a good job filling in the gap if left. Surprising that the first car wasn't packed with too many party people, unlike the R42 and R32 farewell trips. And Knuckles looks so different lmfao.

There’s always a compromise, and in this case, it’s because of planned work. To run the entire V line route at once today, an F train has to run via 53rd Street and make local stops from Queens Plaza to Forest Hills. This can also happen on the E train if it makes the same local stops and terminates at 2nd Avenue. So practically, riding the V line has moved from all weekdays to any weekend that requires it. Has one or both of these scenarios happened before?

JayTownHD The V line is still here, just in the form of the orange M train. Plus the original routing of the V was garbage. Served no real purposes other than duplicating the F. Luckily this new Forest Hills-Metro Av service via 6th Avenue is much more useful for everyone.
@Amiri_Francis2 жыл бұрын
@@TheRailLeaguer To me the V train routing was flawed in many ways The V train purpose was to redistribute Queens-bound passenger loads along the heavily used IND Sixth Avenue Line by encouraging use of the additional local trains provided for shorter trips, and to improve service and transfer opportunities for passengers using local stations along Queens Boulevard. 1. It was placed on 53rd street line where many people catch the Lexington Avenue line causing the F train to be moved to 63rd street a less used line where you cannot transfer to the Lexington Avenue Line without walking outside for a few blocks. 2. This worsen the crowding on the E train cause people wanted express service to 53rd street. It also F***ED up service in queens to this day the The E express and M local merge near Queens Plaza Downtown and Uptown The M and R merge as well. The F express diverges west of 36th Street station to serve the 63rd Street line; this switch induces delays on the QB express. Forest Hills - 71st Avenue, due to its nature as a relay terminal for the M and R trains, induces delays on the QB local. 3. It didn’t had a purpose making look like a mere local counterpart and shorter version of the F train The M train back then had problems too was basically J train running via Myrtle ave line. It was often empty, it carried more air than PASSENGERS, Back then 22,000 M riders transfer to different routes most notably at delanacy st Essex st for F train service to get to midtown While 17,000 head directly to Nassau. Yes 77% of riders TRANSFERRING to different ROUTES. So you tell me if MORE PEOPLE were transferring to different routes to get to somewhere else instead of the ACTUAL ROUTE THAT SAYS SOMETHING. Nassau 4th Avenue service was EMPTY it was the LITERALLY definition of "you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink." basically no one went to southern Brooklyn via Nassau Street which is why the service ended in the first place. Budget cuts and a lack of demand for Nassau street service. You could have only ONE car operate via Nassau and 4th Avenue and the train would STILL BE EMPTY. The M train was only send there because it was there. By rerouting the M train to 6th Avenue you fixed many of the problems. There’s still a demand for lower Manhattan service from Williamburg as proven from the Crowded J/Z trains and the 126,833 daily riders using Nassau street but midtown needed attention too Here’s how the V train should have been created V train Forest Hills - Church Avenue via Queens Blvd 63rd street 6th Avenue Culver Local Weekdays only The F train would mostly be the same but become express in Brooklyn to Coney Island and during weekends and late nights the F train would have to run 63rd street to replace the V train. The E R would remain totally unchanged. G train cut back to Court Square as planned but full time still there’s was also a lack of demand to crosstown Brooklyn. And with queens blvd demanding more midtown service. The F/M could swap routes in Manhattan to remove the merge delays. To deinterline Broadway you would need to route the N train to 2nd Avenue the R train to Astoria and the W train to Queens Blvd and leave the Q train unchanged. The W train would be expanded to daytime weekends hours cause Broadway needs two local services
@TheRailLeaguer2 жыл бұрын
@@Amiri_Francis That’s what I was thinking too. However good luck using that argument on someone like Lewis Richards, who really hates the current M route and wants to see the pre-2010 M and V be returned on existing trackage.
@Amiri_Francis2 жыл бұрын
@@TheRailLeaguer Lewis? I don’t know nor do I really care who that guy is but these railfans and formers honestly need to stop it with trying bring the V and Brown M back there’s no reason to do it. Seriously, why would anyone want to remove a popular train route orange m train in favor of a useless route brown m train and a flawed route v train All you be doing is pissing off Williamburg communters trying to get to midtown and making the L train more unbearable crowded or force people to transfer at Delancy st for an F making the station extremely crowded and all for what just so that some people could see/film a useless train for nostalgia purposes I’ll agree with you that the current Orange (M) service is better than the old (brownM). The old M service carried more air than people and I really don’t know why there seems to be so much clamoring on here for the separate (brownM) and (V) services to come back. The J/Z is still around to take you to lower Manhattan. We could easily expand the BMT Eastern Division to 10 cars and add CBTC to increase service I think the (G)‘s one-seat ride between Brooklyn and Queens was a bit overstated. It was not a hugely popular service when it did run there. And given that the QB Line is the second busiest in the system, with an overwhelming rider preference for Midtown Manhattan service, bringing back the (G) to Queens Blvd would benefit a relatively small number of riders. It would probably be even less popular if it were brought back than it was in 2001 when weekday (G) service was cut back to Court Square to make room for the (V).

Bring back the V train
@TheRailLeaguer5 жыл бұрын
Here is a well thought out plan to bring back the V: These new connections would be built: -A two-track connection under Spring Street linking the Nassau Street Line at Bowery with the 8th Avenue Line at Spring Street. There would be a lower level area with three tracks and two island platforms at 8th/Spring, and a two-track, one island platform along Spring between Broadway and Lafayette Streets, interchanging with the Lexington Avenue and Broadway Lines at the Spring Street and Prince Street stations respectively. -A two-track tunnel under the East River connecting the BMT Broadway Line at Whitehall Street and the IND Fulton Street Line at Hoyt-Schermerhorn, via the Court Street station (presently a museum). Outer track and platform at Hoyt reopened. A new station serving Brooklyn Bridge Park should be evaluated. -Concurrent with Phase 4 of the Second Avenue Subway, a new two-track East River Tunnel would also be built, connecting Hanover Sq with Court Street. -A new three-track subway under Jamaica Avenue linking the IND Fulton Street Line at Broadway Junction with the Jamaica Avenue Elevated at Cypress Hills. This would permit the demolition of the elevated structure over Fulton Street, but a small section should be connected to the new subway for yard access. Both the East NY Yard and the Jamaica Avenue L stations would be retrofitted to use longer trains, as well as include three tracks for the entire length to 121st Street. Woodhaven Blvd would be converted to an express station. Here are the service changes: 8th Avenue, 53rd Street, Concourse: The line that would be most impacted would be the M. Under this plan, the M would continue its Queens to Queens "Loop", but would now do so via 8th Avenue with the E instead of 6th Avenue with the F. The service, redesignated the K, would operate at 10 trains per hour, and combined with the E train at 15 trains per hour, service on the 8th Avenue Local tracks via 53rd Street would see more frequent service. To make room for the K, service would have to be changed north and south of 59th Street. Under this plan, the C would shift to the express tracks with the A, and the D would have to be on the local tracks with the B. The rush hour pattern the B and D utilize would be expanded to the whole weekday. At this point, the A and C would both run local north of 145th Street and would operate out together to 207th Street. While Concourse riders would see somewhat slower service, train speeds would increase since trains no longer have to wait for each other to merge and diverge at both 59th and 145th Street. In addition, the A and D would now both operate at 15 trains per hour and the B and C both at 20. With 25 trains per hour on each track, service is more frequent. On weekends, the B would not run, but service would otherwise be unchanged from weekdays. During late nights, the B and C would not run, and the K would terminate at Spring Street. The A would continue to run local on the line, as would the E, but the D would now supplement it on the local tracks. 6th Avenue, 63rd Street, Culver: The rerouting of the M creates excess capacity for more efficient services. Here, the V would be revived, operating between Jamaica-179th Street and Kings Hwy, via the same route as the F, but via Queens Blvd Local and Culver Express (north of Church Avenue). The routing of the G would remain unchanged. Note that the V would travel into Brooklyn during weekdays only. During weekends, the V would terminate at 2nd Avenue to provide adequate service in Queens in place of the R (see below). During late nights, D service would operate local to reduce waiting times. The G and V would both operate at 10 trains per hour, and the F at 15, giving Culver riders more frequent and faster service. Queens Blvd: On the Queens Blvd Local tracks, the K and V would replace M and R service respectively, while the E and F would continue to be on the local tracks. Both the K and V will also travel to 179th Street with the F via local, allowing for E and F service to go express east of 71st Avenue. With local service at 20 trains per hour and express trains 15, not only is service more frequent, but Jamaica riders would have more options in accessing 8th Avenue trains and avoid the crowds at Roosevelt Avenue. The R would no longer be needed. One drawback of this plan would be that there would be no 6th Avenue and Broadway Line service from the 53rd Street Tunnel. To compensate, new shuttle bus services would link Queens Plaza with nearby stops, as well as Queens Plaza directly into Manhattan. Broadway, Astoria, Second Avenue: With the K and V both providing frequent service on Queens Blvd, the R would be taken off the line. Instead, service would be rerouted back to Astoria-Ditmars full-time. The N would be rerouted along with the Q, while the W would be eliminated. During late nights, all three services would run local. The N and Q would both operate at 10 trains per hour with the T, which would also operate at 10 trains, and the R at 15, giving more frequent and faster service for all riders. Fulton Street, Rockaway: In addition to rerouting the R in Queens, the R would be rerouted in Brooklyn as well. Under this plan, the R would be rerouted from 4th Avenue to the Fulton Street Line, running local to Euclid Avenue. This would allow for the C to move to the express tracks with the A and operate tom Lefferts Blvd. A service would solely to travel to Far Rockaway, while the Rockaway Park Shuttle would become the H to/from Manhattan. During late nights, the R would replace C service to Lefferts Blvd, while the H would run between Euclid Avenue and Rockaway Park. The A, C, and H would all operate at 10 trains per hour, and the R at 15. In addition, the T to Queens would also be sent down here on the local tracks with the R between Court Street and Broadway Jct. Since that line would run at 10 trains per hour, service on the entire Fulton corridor becomes more frequent. It would also allow for some transfer free trips because currently, Fulton local riders looking to reach Far Lower Manhattan and the East Side currently have to transfer to R service at Jay Street MetroTech for Lower Manhattan or Fulton Street to the 4 and 5 services to the East Side. With both the R and T, these same riders now have better options in reaching both areas and can ride directly into Whitehall Street and Hanover Sq and beyond, avoiding the crowds at Jay Street-MetroTech and Fulton Street. On this note, with the R now running on the Fulton Street Line, the R would now be based out of Pitkin Yard. 4th Avenue, Nassau, Jamaica: To replace R service, J service would be extended from Broad Street to Bay Ridge-95th Street. Meanwhile, J service at the other end would terminate at Broadway Junction. At 15 trains per hour, this would create more frequent and reliable service for Bay Ridge Riders. To replace service to Jamaica, the T would operate in the new Jamaica Avenue Line and on the existing Jamaica Elevated to Jamaica Center. While these guys would see a slight drop in frequency and loss of skip-stop service, they would have an overall faster and direct ride to Lower Manhattan without having to pass through the lower east side. If Phase 3 is built with 4 tracks, then we could have an additional 5 trains terminate at 55th Street, giving a 15 train throughput for T riders and more frequent Fulton Local service. Z service would be eliminated as well with the increase in frequency. Crosstown: With the exception of the frequency increases, G service on the line will be unchanged. However, the installation of new switches between both of the tracks between Court Sq and Queens Plaza should be evaluated. This would allow for G service to terminate at Queens Plaza without interfering with E and K service since one of the tracks would now be available. In addition, a weekend extension of the line should also be evaluated post CBTC and trackwork. Canarsie: Aside from infrastructure upgrades related to Sandy Work, the only change is to evaluate the possible rerouting of the line to the adjacent freight tracks between Wilson and New Lots Avenues, with a new connection built connecting the new alignment with East NY Yard. This is a well-thought-out way to bring back the V, while improving efficiency and introducing new travel options for riders.

Its a totally different line. The reason that they made the (T) is to avoid confusion, proving it that it is a different line. If they wouldve made it the (V) train, then that would just confuse people and really ruin the history of the letters and numbers of the system.
