pier gustafson, Oh, you're the sender! That's great. How awesome of you, and if that's you handwriting, it's great.

Appreciate you passing the torch.
@PiersStudio6 жыл бұрын
Oh, and to fill it, you put the nib in the ink and then pull the lever out to a right angle to the barrel. Then just let the lever go, it should spring back. Count to three. Then take it out of the ink. The lever squeezes a little rubber sac.

Peter Also needs to be aware of which direction he draws the nib across the paper in order to prevent the spattering he talks about.. and in order to help maintain the integrity of the tip
@PiersStudio6 жыл бұрын
I've been studying how Peter draws and did select a pen that would not cause (too much) trauma to the artist, the pen or the drawing. Peter does seem to draw (as often as not) by pushing the pen "away" as he does in pulling it towards him. Also equally moving from side to side. Think of a planchet on a Ouija board. This "meandering" line works perfectly fine with many tools. Pencil, ballpoint, technical pens, felt-tips and sumi brushes to name a few. Peter's control of these beautiful curved lines make for the amazing drawings we love. Nibbed pens, though, seem to have a "desire" to be pulled toward you rather than pushed away. certainly when wanting a thicker line from a flexible nib. Pens that I try to put in the hands of an artist or a leftie are those that have a very rounded ball at the end of the tip to reduce as much as possible the scratchiness or spattering which Peter described.

I think you might have provided some inspiration for Peter to go to that pen show recently and buy a $300 pen ;)
@PiersStudio6 жыл бұрын
DaBunne that was my cunning plan. I knew he’d like the nibs of the old ones. He got a great pen at the show. Expensive, yes, but worth it.

The video just started and I absolutely love it already. I love his hair, I love his car. I don't think Peter realizes it, but he inspires a lot of feelings in people, and I don't think any of them are negative. He's like Bob Ross and the 80's had a child, and no one actually hates this child.

You've said a couple of times to just DRAW, whenever you don't know what to draw (aka, an artist block), even if it's just lines. And I tried that, and I think that's what got me, and a lot of other people, to start drawing. I know you get this everyday, but you've inspired so many people to draw, both with your drawings and your words, and you should be very proud of that.

I honestly haven't been this inspired to draw in perhaps 20 years, you have a great way of conveying your love for the art. That you don't label and explain your art is also fun, as a musician I sometimes had feedback on what people felt about my music, and I believe it still is among my best memories to read those reactions. I appreciate the fact that you share your art and keep inspiring me, added bonus is the charming way you do it as well. :)

I love fountain pens, and vintage gold nibs are the best for flexibility, and broad nibs offer more line variation. This one has a rubber sack in its body that the lever squeezes. Make sure you don't use dip pen ink in it.
