I love my duo jet. It actually kinda changed my playing for the better.

They're great aren't they? If you haven't watched it yet, check out this video of Phil & Chris comparing (and playing) an original 1958 335 and a 2013 Custom Shop 335. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rIfUoJKBoJeZqtU

Great time ! the 53 is true pleasure to my ears, the replica isn't as warm but not bad at all ! both great guitars for sure.

I have Seymour Duncans dynos in one duo jet and had another duo jet with T-armonds. Duncans are way beefier and somewhat easier to play on. I think they are closer to the original dynasonics we can hear in this video. I purchased recently a 6120 t-55 vintage select with t-armonds and I am thinking of replacing them with Duncans

I have a Gretsch Clipper (1957) with the original DeArmond pickup and the T-Armonds are the closest replica of them on the market today. I have played your 6120 VS55 and can confirm this. I also used to have a 6120 DSV where I replaced the stock p/ups with Duncans so am very familiar with those as well. The Duncans sound like a much heavily wound version of an original, the end result being that they sound very little like like the old one. And in a 6120 they sound muddy & overwound, not musical at all My recommendation: leave the T-Armonds on the 6120 55 - you have as close to the real thing that way

The Vintage Select Gretsch guitars share the same body specs as the originals. That boutique Penguin is like a new “Players Edition.”

Great video. Can you explain a bit more about the bridge on the 53? You mention having to struggle around to find the palm mute?? What’s the best style of bridge for a Duo Jet?
@chrisbeall57025 жыл бұрын
Darren Guitar: I like the Melita bridge, but there are adjustable pieces that stick up higher than the strings do. That just makes it a little tougher to “palm mute” at the bridge with your right hand--when you rest the side of your hand on the bridge it’s not really touching the strings all that much. The Banning has a Tunomatic that works ok. I am using a Tru-Arc bridge on my Gretsch Country Club (not in the video) that I LOVE. Totally custom--radius, intonation compensation, material, etc...Just tell them what you want.

Chris Beall thanks man! So you would say tru arch is the one to go for? There is Compton too. Any good? Also what’s the overall feel of the G Tailpiece V bigsby? What would you choose?
@chrisbeall57025 жыл бұрын
Darren Guitar I haven’t used a Compton, so I can’t really say. The B6 Bigsby is slow and controlled. I love it!

There are also several Melita (= modern Synchro) bridge with alum or steel cast but also long or short intonation scews (only the long is a palm muting problem, it's more then ok with the short ones).

The more modern non-floating bridge of the Players Edition is a great blend of form and function
