This is a vintage commercial, which was done in a humorous style. The owner of the Chevy Impala was so proud of his new auto, he refused to place his prized possession inside of a normal garage. THE ANSWER WAS TO PUT IT IN A GLASS GARAGE.

I remember growing up the neighbor across the street had one of these. Looked exactly like it, only he had the rally wheels (one of GM's best styling features of that era in my opinion) vs. the full wheel covers on this one. His wife had a 59 Impala (I think it became her car after they bought the 67) and she later replaced that for a 70 Malibu and a few years after that he moved up to a Cadillac Coupe de Ville. That was the way the GM marketing plan was supposed to work that you started with Chevy and moved up the brand hierarchy.

Yeah, that is right, it is Ketchum. I had the same problem remembering him as I did with another commercial, that I posted for Ken L Ration. I couldn't think of the actor's name, and it finally came to me several weeks later. Fred Clark (played the next door neighbor on the George Burns & Gracie Allen TV show) did the commercial with a pet lion who thought it was a dog, and loved Ken L Ration.

1966 & late year '65s, ONLY w/ 396 could have Turbo. (THM 400). In '67 THM was available w/ 327s ONLY for Impala & Caprice & at least some of those may actually have come with "switch-pitch" torque converter generally thought to have been reserved for Buick & Olds only! 1968 saw expansion to the new "307" that replaced the 283, but again that option was only for the two top series, NOT Belair or Biscayne. FINALLY, 1969 with intro of Turbo 350, THM became available in all Chevrolet car lines & models, 6 or V8. Obvious exceptions being Corvair, using its own unique transaxle & 4cyl Nova.

1967 Impala/ Caprices were always beautiful with their "coke bottle" styling, round gauges and good looks. It's a shame that some people are downgrading the much nicer Caprice, into a lowly Impala, just for the sake of a tv show. The Carpice is a much nicer car than the Impala, that's why they cost more back in the day. 40 years, or a tv show can never change that fact.
@MrShine602

Whats so much better about the Caprice compared to the Impala? They look the same except for a few small things like the side trim and bumper, and not to mention that ugly wood dash compared to the Impala's brushed metal one.
@carkenny2
@carkenny2 7 жыл бұрын
Walnut trim is a plus, not a minus. Even in the Mopar world more expensive GTX's had wood trim, while the Road Runner didn't. The lowly Impala could be had with a six banger, while EVERY Caprice was a v8, and EVERY Caprice was the Pillarless hardtop style. The carpets, the seat fabrics, and everything about the Caprice was up-scale. Corner Lamps, triple red taililights while the Back up lamps were cut into the bumpers. Just imagine how much it cost GM just to do the exclusive rear Caprice bumpers. The side trim on the Impala is way too high, and sticks out very clunky. The Caprice trim is much lower (where it should be), and much classier thinner blade. The Base Caprice cost almost 500 dollars more than the Impala and buyer's got a lot for their money. The Caprice coupe had it's own special formal roofline, and the C pillars were very similar to the 70 Chevelle, but the Caprice coupe had it first 4 years earlier.

This car was NEVER marketed as an "Impala Sports Coupe." The name "Sports Coupe" was used by Ford for their sporty Fairlane, then Falcon, in the 1960s. Chevy called their non-SS hardtops Sport Coupes (Sport didn't have an "s" at the end. This car is an Impala Super Sport Coupe.

I had a 67 Impala SS Fastback like shown in this video. Mine was gold in color, had a 396, turbo 400, bucket seats, console, AC, very nice. A 98 year old lady (born in the 1880's) ran a stop sign because she left her glasses at home sitting on the dinning room table. She pulled out in front of me so I swerved clear over to the other side of the 4 lane road to keep from broad siding her and possibly killing her. She ended up broad siding me on the passenger side rear quarter and spun me around. Frame, body, too far gone to even try to rebuild. That happened in the early 1980's. I had planned to keep it for many years because even back then I knew it would be a classic someday. Guess the devil had other plans.

Those were sure the good days! I always could hardly wait every year when Chevrolet would introduce that new year offering, most having complete new body styles like the 1959 and the 1960 cars. Those cars were built with the famous, "Body By Fisher", and they were very well built. Even the American motors cars, along with Studebakers were good cars. Chrysler products, not so much.
