Something you don't see often, a 1975 Lennox Gas Furnace that still purrs like a cat. The switch was not passing power properly so we swapped out the switch and it fired right off. The original condenser was replaced many years ago but the original evaporator coil still remains. A new evaporator coil couldn't even last half that long.

My 1963 Lennox G8 furnace is doing very well, I just gave it a good cleaning of the burners, oiled the motor, and filter change, heat exchanger still going strong. Can we expect 60 plus years from modern furnaces? Maybe one day it will die so far it's showing some very good build quality.

That's very impressive, you could get 20 out of a new one if it's maintained right but I don't know about 60! haha

How did you clean your burners? Did you pull them out?
@dwaynemcallister7231

Yes I did remove the burner's, all 4 of them, the entire job required a couple hours because I needed to disconnect my gas line and a couple wire's. I made sure to replace them in the same location they came from in case that affected the burn. I cleaned them by blowing compressed air through them and also vacuum out the fire box ash & debris@@Angelof005

@hulklu1 pull them out dump the rust and scuff them with a wire brush

Hmm maybe it is the dry Canadian prairie climate but my burner's had no rust just light coat of dust or ash and blowing them out with compressed air revealed a certain amount of debris, but I did go over them with a wire brush anyway. @@HVACExplorations

I have a 1988 Lennox gas furnace. I'd love to get another 10 years out of it. It's still running smoothly.

probably have a cracked heat exchanger and needs to be replaced.

Only if it over heated. Keep the air filter clean. The newer 90% furnaces get cracked heat exchangers from over heating, they have very thin exchangers.@@Jon-hx7pe

Looks almost exactly like mine, but I think mine is a '69. Yep, still workin' too.... My filter is a hammock style though, and I just cleaned it and it can get very dirty. They don't sell the larger sheet filters anymore in my local hardware store. Usually they come in rolls and I cut it to size and fit it in the 'hammock' or basket-like filter holder. My blower is getting old and they can't get parts for it anymore so it doesn't spit out heat quite like it used to but I hope it has a few good years left. It does have a fan I can turn off or on as well.

I always found enjoyment in keeping 30+ year old systems going, not really sure why but I’m happy to preserve a piece of history

I take my hammock filter out side and hose it off.

@@gone2thedogs265 sounds like a great method. Especially if it's sunny out so it can try thoroughly. We wouldn't want any mold growing in it, but I suppose if the furnace is running, the heat from it would dry it out sufficiently.

Keep it going how much longer can you get it to run without the heat exchanger cracking I have one from 1995. I am getting ready to change it to a train to stage furnace and air conditioner, 98% just to try to save energy money better to heat the house easier

Nice old unit. I live way up north and mine is from 1980. The only issue I keep having is sometimes after it runs, it turns off then the fan comes back on once or twice. Any idea why this may be?

Nice! Some thermostats have a circulation setting that cycles the blower on and off, I would start by checking for that

@@HVACExplorations thanks but definitely not that. It is intermittent and the thermostat is an old time slider type. It's almost like it's not drawing enough cool air from the returns and then is venting itself again. I am suspicious of the limit switch in this case. It is adjustable. Has an on/off/high settings. My guess is that switch is just old or sticky and now functioning smoothly enough, so the fan is shutting off before the heat is completely extracted, or the switch 'thinks' it's still to warm and turns the fan on. I just see nightmares with new furnaces so I guess I will tolerate this problem until I can no longer. Appreciate your feedback and I subscribed to your great channel here!

Outstanding video! Can you tell me about the little white button and the wording that reads, "push man, pull auto"? I pushed mine and now the blower comes on but I can obviously shut off with main switch that you just replaced? I'm also asking how can I unpush/pull that same white button? I'm trying to light the pilot is my endgame. Thank you so much
