I've got the matchbox version of this. I've got it in new open box. The same one I had back in the day. I never got the large version. And I didn't know this small version had firing lion heads from Popy like the large version. Also, I think this Popy version has better chrome on the arms compared to my NOS Matchbox version.

Congrats! Interesting to hear about the chrome, do you think they were different from the factory or do you mean your chrome has degraded and just your example if different?

I really appreciate the effort you're putting into this channel, I hope it does well. Voltron was never shown in the UK so I've no attachment to it, but this is still interesting. I wonder, do you have Gats Blocker from the old Diaclone line? I swear it, or something very similar to it, was being sold in the UK in the 80s and the reboot line has brought the memories flooding back. I always wanted one and since there's nothing like it in the new line so far I wonder if they might try a modern reinvention soon.

I didn't know that they didn't have Voltron in the UK... seems like it was such a hit everywhere in the west, big missed opportunity by one of the toy companies and the networks. You guys had Monkey (Magic) though right? I do have GatsBlocker and along with my few other vintage Diaclones I do aim to cover them soon but I'll bump him up the list :)

@@robotoyworld We had Monkey but I think the only other Japanese programme on TV in the 80s was Battle of the Planets. There was certainly no Voltron, Robotech, Speed Racer or any of the other shows that seem to have been popular in the US and Australia. I think it was probably because they were deemed too violent or as promotions for toys. Even the Transformers cartoon was only shown in five minute chunks as part of another show. That's one of the reasons that most UK Transformers prefer the comics, which came out first and were aimed at a slightly older audience.

Are you sure about Voltron not being shown in the UK? I distinctly remember watching it around 84 when I lived in Glasgow. I’m not saying you are wrong. I’m more confused at my vivid memory of it. Maybe I watched it on VHS but that dos the seem that likely.

@@steelsiphon All I can say is it certainly wasn't shown in England (and my dad's Scottish so I would've thought my cousin would've mentioned it). Given my obsession with giant robots I can't imagine how I could've missed it, if we're talking about terrestrial TV. Memory can be a fickle thing, so maybe you just saw it a little later on satellite or VHS?

@@arthurdent9909 VHS is maybe a possibility but not satellite. I could swear I saw it week to week for a bit but again I may be wrong. I do remember seeing the big combining toy and begging my parents for it but it was way out of their budget. Could have been a scotland thing as I have a few memories of different animes. Something with a runaway tank. Definitely Battle of The Planets, Ulysses 31 and Mysterious City of Gold.

I did! Actually have one on order but no idea when it will arrive. I've heard some stories of bad QC which is not what you want of a figure at that level. I think the current theory is that they may have all been the first batch which was only released in Asia and potentially the further exported versions will be a revised production. That's what I'm hoping at least!

​@@robotoyworld Good, you have one. Luckily I didn't have any problems when I got it however like a week later the Black lions clear stand broke, you know the piece that goes up his bottom? Yeah that broke but luckily I fixed it.

@@christisrisen6774 Oh no! Was it fragile or was it just bad luck when handling it? My order was cancelled by the supplier back then but I ended up getting the Muscle Bear KO. Then at Christmas a good mate gifted me the actual Blitzway so now I'm lucky enough to have the KO in combined mode and the genuine Blitzway in Lion mode on the stand 😍

It has become very expensive and very hard to be found in good condition. I am waiting to have 700-800 Our to buy one in perfect shape. maybe on 2024. Meanwhile I have restored a Japanese one with some parts from the Matchbox version. It' beautiful but half-bootlegged...

That still sounds pretty good - your version I mean, not the price! I am surprised they're that much as I think I paid ~$500 a few years ago and I think I overpaid a little back then, but I haven't really kept an eye on the market.

Dreamworks will undoubtedly find new ways to milk the Voltron franchise for all it’s worth. So, maybe the next step for them could be producing an uncut dub for Beast King GoLion.

I really loved the Netflix reboot, and I think any additional exposure for Voltron for kids isn't a bad thing :)
