I did the same kit and the only thing i would add is to use silicone spay lubricant on the bigger hoses and they will slide through like butter. Night and day difference. Also plan your hoses routing before you pull them all through. Don't just grab hoses and stuff them in any of the four holes. Know which ones will be on top and which ones will be on the bottoms. Makes a huge difference when doing the final button up. One last thing is to secure the lines on the evap before you mount it to the firewall. Just pay attention and watch for kinking when putting it into place.

You guys are doing a awesomre job on your 75' Bird. I have a 75' Firebird Formula that I've had since one year out of highschool. It sat at my fatherinlaws house for 20 yearsuntil about a year ago. So I've started the resto. Pulled it all apart. Blasted the frame and underbody. Bought a LS6 crate motor from a freind that was pulling it out of his Camaro he had installed just a few years before. He was leaving the state and we both thought it would make a fine addition to my car. Anyway, your video is the most informative of all the Vintage Air installs I"ve seen so far. What's really nice is to see your son working side by side with you. When it's all said and done. This will be one of the greatest storys he'll tell throughout his life. Thanks for the vids.

Too cool that you still have your bird! I had a 77 impala In high school I wish I still had! I really appreciate the compliments and thank you so much for tuning and following along. Best wishes in the new year brother!

Thank you for documenting this Nate, its a lot better detailed then some of the other Vintage air install videos out there,. I'm haven't decided to keep my stock A/C with an upgraded compressor, or go with a vintage air yet. But if I do go the Vintage route,I will be definitely watching this video while I do it.
@HeavyPedalGarage2 жыл бұрын
Right on! I struggled with the decision but ultimately decided i wasn't that interested in staying with the stock look and there were a lot of benefits to going with the VA system. The good thing is that i can probably use some of the parts from the bird to restore the stock ac on my blazer!

I'm nearing the end of this install on my '71 Firebird. I watched this video many times. It was a great help. Thank you for your hard work putting it together! My tip is regarding the center dash vent ducts. The directions say to cut them in 16-inch lengths. That is not enough. It stretches the duct hose too much making it tough to keep it secured. I didn't get excess length of duct hose in the kit like you did. Mine was pretty much on the numbers when stretched. On the plus side, extra duct hose is dirt cheap from Vintage Air or from a lot of other places that sell it.

Thanks for the feedback on the video and the hose lengths. have a little extra could help an awful lot.

Heck yeah. Thanks man. That number 10 was very difficult until I got that tip From the vintage air KZbin channel. They should put that one in the manual for sure!

I am seriously thinking of doing a Vintage Air on my Sunbird project. The car needs a full new harness and it is completely apart. Surprisingly....they don't make a kit for a Sunbird! 😂 I know they have a universal type kit that others have used. Great video.
@HeavyPedalGarage2 жыл бұрын
Right on! Ya know how manufacturers used the same parts on different models, I wonder if any Pontiac kits would get close to matching? Good luck bud! I’m sub’d and looking forward to seeing how your project turns out.

Right on. Been saving and buying parts the whole 9 yrs I’ve had the car. I’m just finally happy to see it all going on the car and not setting in boxes in the corner. 😁 the hoses are a very durable vinyl/plastic. Like that plastic clothes dryer vent material, only not chintzy. So are you gonna put 134a in yours? I think the old systems used r12. I’ve read about the conversion kits and upgrades needed to go from 12 to 134 but I’ve also read that some just throw some 134 in and it works fine. Another reason I went with VA. I just figured my system was gonna get expensive to get going.
@firebird70 Жыл бұрын
gday Nath, i'm finally starting to install the same kit in my 70, and watching your footage at 28:00 min again, it looks like the supplied 90deg -10 is begging to be swapped for a 45deg fitting instead ? thoughts ?
@HeavyPedalGarage Жыл бұрын
That would certainly help. The kit came with the hose fittings pre crimped so i just ran with it.

Where did you mount the heater control valve?
@HeavyPedalGarage Жыл бұрын
heater control valve is mounted low on the passengers side outside firewall. close to where the body mount is located.
@gp78man12 жыл бұрын
Would that work with tall covers, I couldn't see the space it had.
@HeavyPedalGarage2 жыл бұрын
Tall valve covers right? I think it would work. There is a lot of adjustment in the bracket. I haven’t put a belt on it yet. But if you did have issues with the recommended size belt, I bet you could put a longer one on and be ok. If you want, shoot me an email heavypedalgarage@gmail.com and I’ll send some pics that show the dimensions a little better.
