I am no expert at Auto Air Conditioning or Aftermarket AC installations but I believe these kits were designed so that you don't have to be an expert. This is the last in a series of my recent AC install and it covers advantages and disadvantages of one system over the other. We live in a country of choices so the choice is yours. Would I buy Vintage Air again? I sure would. Would I buy Classic Auto Air again, yes. Neither one is better than the other, this is just my unbiased observations. Thank You for watching.

I still like my old control panel face for my 1973 Camaro, but I'll worry about that later. But it seems like the pros outweigh the cons for the Classic Auto Air kit - Thanks for taking the time to run down all the details. Even that binary plug shield looks nice and finished.

Hiding hoses is EXACTLY what the people buying the systems asked for..... Many want to open the hood and see as little anything, other than engine.

You can get vintage air kits with the control panel included and pre crimped lines it depends on what kit you get same with glove box. Which is slightly smaller I have watched several videos on this. Vintage air kits essentially modernize the whole air conditioning system. Also the smaller condensers with vintage air are due to because a lot of guys also install bigger modern performance aluminum radiators at the same time. Or things like bigger Trans coolers. Or turbo coolers Or things like trinary switches. And convert to electric fans. Remember r134 a works very different than r12 did. Again it depends on preferences. But I can understand what you are saying it's a pain in the ass with removing fenders. And all that drilling and stuff. And the wiring of the harnesses. Remember with r134 a bigger condenser or evaporator does not always mean better or colder. As I have seen a lot of videos with guys just plain flat out bieng lazy. Like a video with a guy with an opened r 12 system. From a 78 firebird takes everything apart then just replaces a freaking evaporator but leaves a rusty condenser and evaporator after disassembling the whole evaporator box. For me I don't want to spend all that time doing that. I would rather do it once and not worry about that with everything I need at once.

Vintage air now gives you a new plastic glove box insert. Its much better than the old cardboard.

Did you make a Vintage Air installation video? I just mocked up a vintage air template unit for my camaro and welded up some studs so when I am ready I will buy it and install it.

No, I did not record a Vintage Air install video. They do make a good system though. I like their variable speed control. With Classic Auto Air, you only get 3 speeds. With Vintage Air, you get variable speeds.

Which one has the better instructions?

Vintage Air instructions are easier because they include templates.

For a truck, I would go with either of the two, Vintage Air or Classic Auto Air. Honestly, they both have their pros and cons; in fact I have a 72 El Camino I just picked up. I plan to go with Vintage Air for it. After watching my video it is easy to see I may choose Classic Auto Air over Vintage Air but at the end of the day they both cool just as good.

What exactly do you mean by “bench test” when talking about the Classic auto air? I know what bench test means in a typical application, but since CAA already has all the lines and fittings crimped I can’t think of anything you’d have to “bench test” (AKA: fit test I suppose) other than making sure the fittings were correct? Am I on track with that or did you literally have to test all the electrical components etc? Thanks.

Bench test means hooking up 12 volts to the system before installing and checking that everything works. Making sure the defroster doors open and close when at the right setting, etc.

Honestly, they both work about the same. One thing I forgot to mention, Vintage Air fan speed switch is variable whereas Classic Auto Air only has three settings. Sometimes I prefer to have that very slow speed between off and speed 1. With Vintage Air, you can do that; with Classic Auto, you cant. They both work about the same.
