I really love the extra trim details on those engines, never seen them quite like that before.

Beautiful set of trains. The PA’s always looked great in the Santa Fe livery.

Well thanks for this one Leonard! And it looks like you've solved a mystery. About a year (or maybe two) ago someone linked a toy train hobby promotional film made around 1972 on the "Classic Toy Trains" magazine Forum for everyone's enjoyment. Featured in the film was Ward Kimball and Ward was holding an obviously O Gauge size model of an Alco PA. Now that started a flurry of guesswork by the Forumites as to who made the model since Lionel wasn't doing one at the time and neither was anyone else to our knowledge. I'm guessing Ward had one of those CLW PA's and you may just have answered the question. I'll have to see if I can find that Forum thread again and link your video. Thanks again!

No. This one has door handles and different side radiator grills than the one in Model Railroading Unlimited.

I have the CLW A-B set, cast bronze cab and carbody end, and etched brass sides/roof. Mine are never painted, still in raw brass and bronze, and never corrected shape of windscreen openings and hood & roof details. After years of search, I found a set of S-F decals, and hope to paint and decal this coming winter.

Generally, three-rail is considered O "Gauge". 2 Rail like this is considered O "Scale".
@vintage-model-trains
@vintage-model-trains Жыл бұрын
Gauge is the distance between the rails ....scale refers to the size of the train ...this case the 17/64ths scale train is running on O gauge track ..which is the proper scale for O gauge ..not the more commonly used 1/4" scale

Hey Leonard, are the front steps that go to the cab doors screwed on like the E unit or molded on like an Atwater F unit? I got my E unit to go around 32 inch radius curves by unscrewing the steps. I'm wondering how these would handle 32 inch radius?
@vintage-model-trains

I don't think they would like a 32-in radius My layout has a 48-in radius and that's about the limit for these engines unless you ground off a whole bunch of the trucks side frames

These are excellent Leonard! So is the power train just like the E unit? Motor with worm gear drives first axle on truck then chain to middle axle and another chain from middle to last axle? How are the chains doing on these units? I'm only running 5 of 6 axles on my E unit cause a chain is too loose.

Each unit has one power truck vertical motor which then drives one of the rear axles and then chains to the other two axles
