Nice to meet another person who is hip to vintage Seikos. I have a 1978 SQ and if you were to just read it as a list of specs it wouldn’t seem impressive in today’s market. Quartz, mineral crystal, folded link bracelet, pressed clasp, 36mm. On paper it’s a mediocre watch. In reality it’s one of the best damned watches I’ve ever owned. The folded link bracelet is super light with lots of articulation so it just molds to your wrist. The dial is subtle, with a hue somewhere between white and rose gold. It changes depending on the angle of the light. It’s 36mm, but it wears larger because of its hooded lugs. The second hand hits every marker giving it the feel of a precision instrument. Finally, the indices and applied logo are so crisply machined that I always stop and marvel that such precision was possible in 1978. Hell, that kind of precision would be impressive now. It’s an amazing timepiece. P.S. I personally love the 36mm size. I was just making the point that the diminutive size would be unpopular in today’s market.

I know what you mean. I just recently bought a Citizen Crystron quartz from the 70s. Finely cut applied Citizen logo and applied CQ logo on bottom half of dial. The second hand hits almost every marker. And the dial and watch head still in very good condition. Beauty of a watch and it only cost me 80 bucks. I don’t care for that quartz ain’t got not soul. Mine do!

I’ve got one of those lord marvels with a slightly different dial from early 70s, lovely watch, so much fun to be had with seikos from that era. Tend to wear on leather straps though

They look great on a lizard band.

Love the LM, I have a similar piece. If you like that look, check out the King Seiko 5246-5030. The caliber 52 doesn't have that plastic rocker and the day-date changes over instantaneously around midnight.

I also get a kick out of an instant date change. Appreciate you watching and dropping this comment.

I recently fell in love with a gorgeous King Seiko but I’m all honestly that vintage one is kinda sexier!

Ah man I was hoping you’d weigh the lord marvel too! Where did you pick these up (flea market, eBay?)

Both were eBay purchases.

The Lord Marvel, 87 grams. I didn’t weigh it cause the solid link milled butterfly clasp is aftermarket. If the Lord Marvel had an original bracelet it would be folded links and lighter. Appreciate the participation! 👍🏾
