L C well, we didn’t HAVE an iPod or pad until a VERY few years ago. I know all these, as did my mother and grandmother. They played them and sang along, records, however primitive, then radio, then tv, and so on.🤷‍♀️ in almost every house, Someome could play the piano. Those scenes you see in Christmas movies with everybody gathered around the piano and singing are not made up.

So are a LOT of us. Christmas isn't elves, Santa Claus, snowmen, and all that stuff, it is about Christ the LORD being born to save us all from being separated from God, and the vintage Christmas songs, sung by choir's and individuals tell this story. Christmas music has been turned into love songs about humans being in love at Christmas time, now. It's sickening and sad.

Hi Punki80 - Yes, death is painful for us and it is an enemy, but through Jesus Christ we can overcome death, and then death is not Goodbye forever, but only, See you later. It's a matter of simply having faith in Jesus and inviting him into our hearts, repenting of our sins, then we will be forgiven and receive eternal life. That's the wonderful Gospel message. If we all do that, death is still sad parting, but we know we'll see those people again in Heaven. And we'll see them soon enough, as life goes by quickly, as you said. Jesus is truly the reason for the season! There would be no Christmas carols and no festive season of merrymaking if the Son of God were not born into the world. Maybe you know all this, but many people don't, or they don't care. We should all reflect on this, pray, accept him (if we haven't) and we'll all rejoice forever more some day. Heaven will be like Christmas forever!

We and our parents lived our whole lives with the knowledge that any recorded session could be available for future generations. In the early 1900s, this must have been a novelty. I wonder if the Edison Concert Band members thought that someone would be listening 111 years later using a technology they would find indistinguishable from magic.
@fitzdraco

I'm gonna go with yes, at least in the case of anything related to Edison. By this time the Library of Congress was already putting together a collection of culturally significant recordings for preservation. Looking a list of preserved materials Edison's name shows up a couple of times, although not the song here.

I heard in one song here where they weren't afraid to say a certain name either. People today might have vague concepts about evil, but back then they could say what things were without everyone laughing at them for taking religion too seriously: the majority were religious and would read their Bibles. We talk about the voices of the past not knowing 100+ yrs later we would be listening in. Betcha YOU didn't have an idea that less than 4 months away an Earth shattering Virus would cripple the Planet and only now...at Christmas...would a possible answer be available. Merry Christmas...Here's hoping NEXT YEAR at this time we can meet back here again with possible Good news! Merry Christmas,my Friend.

Grace and Blessings are coming as such surprises this special Christmas season ! My parents were born in 1915, and my Mother's Father sang in a religious Quartet. I'm so certain that these songs were part of their growing years. The songs have brought tears of love to my heart and soul. Thank you for producing this treasure. I can hardly wait until I get to see them again. As Tiny Tim so famously said " May GOD bless us, everyone " .

Thanks so much for these, Lindsay, and Merry Christmas to you! My grandparents were married in 1910, and my daddy was their firstborn in 1912. I love these things that put me in their timeframe. My grandfather would go out and get a tree on Christmas Eve night (when they were then free at the tree lot), and the children would wake up to it Christmas morning. I don't know how in the world real candles were put on a tree without burning it down, but I saw the candle holders on Etsy, and now I understand.
