I used to have that set but with a few extra cars, like flatbeds with shipping containers and a few other railcars. For about 15 years, once or twice a year I would take it all out of the box, set it up, run it for a few hours, then put it all back. It was in excellent condition along with my other train modeling stuff like gentry cranes and railyard pieces and my collections of everything from 80's GI Joe figures and vehicles to model ships and aircraft. When I became an adult, my childhood stuff went into storage. I joined the military and when I got out I found out that all of my childhood stuff in storage was gone, presumably given away. I'm still pretty mad about it, but at the same time at least other kids got some joy out of my old toys.

I remember visiting Klein’s in Baltimore after Thanksgiving in 1973. I was working for George Taylor who owned the Train Station on Indianola Avenue in Columbus Ohio. This was the first store to sell in Columbus to specialize in vintage trains. The store had been almost been picked clean on Thanksgiving weekend and we needed to restock. ‘Old man Klein’ offered us a stack of 30-40 of these sets at $5 each as they had not been good sellers. Being the smart guy he was, George bought them all. Back in Columbus, every time a frantic parent came in to get a ‘train set for his son,’ we sold him a Cox set for $25. I think they were all gone in a week! I still have the brown road grader as well as a yellow one.
that is one remarkable set that is really neat and I like your Channel I'm glad I found it

Really enjoyed your review of the Vintage COX HO-Scale U.S. Army Model Train Set and the Mehano Track Pack! It's fascinating to see models from the 1970s in action and to learn about their history and value. Your detailed unboxing and testing give a great sense of what to expect from these sets. Thanks for including the price points and the purchasing links-it's super helpful for anyone looking to add to their collection. Appreciate your efforts to keep these vintage sets alive in the community. Keep up the great work!

found a partial of this set in an antique store a few years ago, but it looks like you're actually missing a car! there was a car that was an ammunition car that had a play function that would make it mock 'explode' and all the sides and roof would blow off the chassis.

Very Cool!. I myself have a complete, unopened Big Pine Lumber Co train set that i got as a kid. I had so many trains that i never got around to playing with it,haa!. One thing i discovered though is the motors in some of these diesels werent exactly great.A childhood pal of mine said his diesels motor died after a month sadly. If anything at all, people who'd like to restore the motors should just go to a company called Northwest Shortline. They make "Re-powering kits" for various old trains and they also make custom gears and wheel sets. I go to them when i build HO MU coaches and or if i wanna power up a dummy loco i find in bargain bins at hobby shops. Check their site out, it's great! nwsl.com/

Yeah, I'm doing a similar project to some of my old Tyco, Life-Like and Bachmann equipment I had when I was a kid. The metal wheels not only look better, but it drastically reduces the amount of grime and gunk that the plastic wheels generate during operation. So if anyone is on the fence about changing the wheels, I say go for it, your track, arms and back will thank you later!

@arrow14143 жыл бұрын
In real life that train would need at least two other diesels with all that weight, so that F3 straining to pull that train by itself is actually pretty realistic-even if a kid would be disappointed on Christmas Day.
