I recently saw a guy in California that bought an old leather chair at an estate sale that had interesting shapes. I think he paid either $50 or $75. He put it up for sale on estate auction that was an international auction. The chair brought over $75,000!!! You just never know unless you research things what they are worth. I love stories like that and thought you would too!!!

I had an old gold hand mirror similar to that, that had once belonged to my great grandmother. I used it as a teen, when I wasn’t “into” antiques or anything vintage. So, unfortunately, I got rid of it because it wasn’t new and shiny. 😢 lesson learned as I became an adult. It was most likely from the 30s or 40s. My great grandmother was born in the very late 1800’s and passed in the mid 1970’s.

The vaneer on the glass cabinet is called "quarter sawn oak", Tiger stripe is usually maple. Love your channel and I, too, like darker antiques. So tired of everything being painted white. I think you have a mid west style of decorating as I do, but now I'm in Florida and not many antiques on the gulf coast.

I found a "too shiny" pair of brass wall sconces. Used vinegar and salt and it quickly removed the shine. They look gorgeous on the front of my entertainment center.

The shield on the Mirror does look Deco , I love all Your treasures You found ... and may have turned an Emerald shade of green lol .. xx from New Zealand OMG just got to the Curio cabinet ...EEEEEE that is so gorgeous and I would have snapped that up too ...like You said worth hundreds ..and probably a more than a few here in NZ love the feet! I am with You and don't think those castors would have been on it originally , I mean who would want to move it around , especially with Treasures in ?? hahahha (and they don't look as old as the Antique piece ) The curved glass is so amazing ! PS I grew up and my mother was an Antique dealer so was surrounded by them , but as a child not that into them as I was the one who had to dust everything hahahah but I do feel that I learnt a lot by osmosis . I was into Deco and 50's when I moved out of home . Funnily enough She went Minimalist after all of us moved out ...because all 4 dusters/cleaners moved out . Now I am in Victorian and other Antique styles and have been letting go of the more modern pieces to make way for Treasures .

What you need for your sconces are called cap nuts (decorative ball that screws to secure sconce to wall plate) and you can find them in lighting hardware at home improvement stores. I needed some recently.

This is an idea that popped into my head when you were showing the brass sconces. The hole in the front that has no cover. You could use brass buttons. The kind that have the hook on the back. You can either leave the hook or cut it off. I don't believe that matters. Of course if you wanted to you would be able to age them so that they would look the same as the sconce.

Omg! I bought a curio cabinet one that looks 99% identical for 40$$ a few years back. The lady told me her great grandmother had it and it was passed down. She was certain it had to have been at least 100 Plus years old. Her mother who was an artist painted it with antique white with gold trim. It looks absolutely stunning every time I see it. Great find for sure.

This was a lovely video. Hauls are not usually my favorites throughout the channels I subscribe to, but this was a fun way to do one. The history and info behind the items were fascinating. I’m not an expert on brass, but I think you may need to remove the lacquer for anything other than a rub-n-buff type of aging to work. And maybe just removing the lacquer is all you need to get the patina you want. Obviously they use the lacquer to keep it from getting the patina we all love now. 😄 The casters are quite…unique. I don’t feel like they look quite right. I feel like they have replaced the original ones at some point. It seems like most castors from that time period were metal, blended in with the wood and were a much lower profile. They almost draw all the attention instead of the beautiful claw feet! But what a great price! 🙌🏻

The glass front curio cabinet is just beautiful. And $75 what a steal! I agree with you I don’t think the casters are original. Even if the casters are old the piece looks odd with them. I think I would remove them. The book, mirror and the magnifying glass are also great scores. I love your decorating style.

That curio cabinet is such a great find! There are techniques to "fix" that missing veneer with filler and paint pens, if you want to expand your repertoire. Dashner Restorations would be a good channel for some info if you are interested in doing something like that. I wish I had thrift stores here that carried things like what you find and share with us.

So glad to see a video from you today! Always enjoy your finds and your projects. 😊 I wondered if you have ever watched KZbin channel “Vision in Vintage”? Her style is very Victorian, with a twist. ( more oddities) but I think you’d like it. Also, I’ve discovered a UK wallpaper company that has The BEST prices…even William Morris paper seems to be about half of what I see for other sites. They’re not cheaper than peel and stick paper, but I just can’t imagine peel and stick paper has the staying power that regular glued wallpaper does. Let me know if you’re still considering WM paper and I’ll send you the name. Sorry so long… 😊

Please make sure the book is not sheeles green or Paris green. Research this and you’ll see why. It was quite common in that time period to use that pigment in the green color and if it is. It’s toxic. Those pigments contained arsenic. I’m an artist and antique collector. Just wanted to share.
