Awesome video, I've just dragged out our 1980 rm250 out from the back shed, and in the midst of getting it up and running again. Haddent been running for years, got it started the other day, once you smell the the two stroke and hear the noise, gets you pumped to give it a major birthday, hope it turns out as clean as those 2 RMs.

Steve here. I switched from the RMs when I jumped from the 100s to the 250s in 1980 to the better looking and handling YZs. Thanks for the memory lane trip

His bikes look amazing. You are correct about the blue frame. They weren't blue until 1983 from the factory.

@@ethics3 you are right. I would have sworn the 83 frames were blue

No 1984 was the first of the blue frames

My hearts desire , the PE 250 back in 1981 never came to fruition for me but any ‘80’s Suzuki 2 stoke is always desirable today. Brilliant !

Very informative video. A bit of a sad link brought me here. Robin water Smith was riding one of these on his attempt at jumping 31 rolls royce to set a new distance record in 1979. He fell short and paid the ultimate price. Still it did show what these bikes were capable off.

Hi Patrick yes I remember and I’m sure there’s a video on You Tube with that crash from 1979. A tragic event without a doubt.

@@monticlassictv yes there are 2 videos of the Robin Winter Smith attempt in 1979 on youtube. Both have the same footage, but one has live sound and is higher quality. The other has the grim creepy music in the background. Playing at 0.25 speed gives detail as well, if your up for that.

Us Yanks always thought it rains in Scotland.. :) :)... Beautiful video.

james carbonaro Hi James yeah you’re almost right the dreaded British weather can put a damper on these kind of events even in the summer. Although occasionally we do have half decent summers and if we get the weather Britain, and of course my Scotland in particular has some of the most beautiful landscapes on the planet. Anyhow thanks very much for your comment and stay safe with all your American friends.

They weren't as popular are the 125 here in New Jersey MX in 79/80 but there were enough behind the gate. I never see them racing today. I'd love one now

Ricky Poq I always endeavour to let my You Tubers hear the bikes running but throughout the day of filming these machines which is normally done very early in the morning there is a curfew for riders not to start up machines before a certain time of day. By the time they do get them started up I’m usually trackside by then ready to film the racing. And as I do absolutely everything on my own with regards filming, editing, and taking pictures it’s not easy to cover every blade of grass on the day. . . although sometimes it does feel that I do.

I had one of these many years ago but never raced it. Just rebuilt it and ran it around rough ground etc. Can't recall what I did with it. Wish I'd kept it. Stay safe everyone.
