The original stretch four, and a player who thrived in both the pre- and post- shot clock era of basketball. He was no finesse player though, as Schayes was adept at crashing the boards.

Some basketball highlights from the stone-age. This man was basically Paul Millsap + Kristaps Porzingis rolled into one player back in the day. Are there any other players that you'd like to see? Don't be afraid to comment! - Pocky -

Things that stand out to me. 1. Look at his shoes. Those weight like a pound each. How he shot with those is crazy. 2. Look at the basket. Not a breakaway rim like today. Harder to make jumpers on. 3. The rules were that you couldnt cross from in front of your chest and it would be a call for palming. Crazy how these guys got open. 4. This dude out here bustin 3's when there was no 3 point line. Imagine how many more points he would have accumilated.

I have a theory that people diminish the accomplishments of yester-year players because the film quality doesn’t translate how fast and hard they played, it wasn’t as refined but the basket is still 10 feet the floor 94 feet and a grown mans effort is still a grown mans effort

He was outstanding in his time. However, one thing I have noticed is that Bob Pettit's game, whose career overlapped with Dolph's, seemed to have a much more modern feel to it. It wouldn't be a real stretch for me to imagine Pettit (he retired in 65) playing in the 70s and beyond. Schayes doesn't give me the same feel, impression. Just an observation.

@@Just_another_Euro_dude this is what people always neglect to do. You can’t just pick a player up and drop them in a different era, they had different tools available to them. It’s like if you picked up Steph Curry and put him in the 40s yeah he’d be unreal dominant, but that’s because he had the opportunity to learn from people who had perfected things before him, and he had modern training techniques and tools. What you have to do to compare era to era is say “ok, this is what this guy was talented at, what would it look like if he was born in the 90s-2000s and had all modern training, what kind of player would he be then?” Using that Steph Curry example, if he was born in the 20s, his shot would very likely be similar to Schayes shot, a 2 handed set shot, with very basic dribbling skills compared to what he can do today. And if Schayes was born in the 90s, he’d very likely be in the league as a knockdown scorer and solid rebounder, probably developing a skillset similar to Wolves Kevin Love, or Kevin Garnett

@@kalebc2134 perfect way to put it. If I was listing my "best" 100 players schayes wouldn't even cross my mind because a random division iii player today has more skill. You can always tell the casuals and weak rec center players in the comments. Always stating that they would drop 50 and so forth. They have minimal understanding of the era’s and game development overtime. These dude’s were SUPERSTARS FOR THAT ERA…basically he was the Curry or Lebron of the 50s…so all that stuff you see today was nowhere near thought of back then. So I guess if you had a time machine you probably would drop maybe 20 or so but they are still professionals that would adapt to your game.

BS. The rules were so different, you would feel awkward playing it. You had to keep your hand above the ball while dribbling at all times, so crossovers were very difficult There was no 3 point line, so it didn't make sense to shoot from deep, big men had the advantage in the post and could stay in the paint the whole time, then bully you on the gather for a drive in lay up Just saying, your watching a different game through the eyes of the modern Era, where you can't do half as much back then
