Not to criticize, as I enjoyed your video and you have a very fine watch. But it is not railroad grade. In the US Webster Ball was commissioned by the railroad commission to establish strict guidelines for timepieces used on the railroad. They had to use the “lever” system in order to move the hands to change the time. They had to have a micro adjustment to regulate the hairspring. They had to have resistance to magnetism and incorporate at least 21 jewels. They had to be adjusted for keeping time in at least 5 positions. And there were other criteria, but these are the main ones. I have a 1960 Ball pocket watch made for the US rail industry. I also have a T. Eaton watch with Gallet movement, made for the Canadian rail industry. Canadian and US pocket watch standards are very similar, however, Canadian RR watches must have a 24 hour dial, whereas most rail roads in the US use a 12 hour dial. Hope you found this helpful. Looking forward to your next video.

Watches were not regulated by the railroad till after approx 1890. The were not stem set and they were higher than 15 jewel and had a requirement to being set to 5 positions, which included temperature. It is still a beautiful watch.

Exactly! To be certified for use by rail roads in the US, the watch had to be lever set. This was to insure the time was not inadvertently changed after being set.

I inherited a similar watch. My great grandfather willed it to my grandfather who willed it to my father who willed it to me. It doesn’t run. I can’t get the case open to even see if it is damaged inside. The face is white China porcelain. Somewhere in time, I think someone dropped the watch because the face has a few cracks in it and the watch won’t run. It sits in a display case on my bookshelf. Maybe one day, I’ll have a professional jeweler look at it.

Not a Railroad watch. You should research things before saying they are something they are not. In 1907 they would have to have been at least 17j adjusted to 5 positions. This is a working mans watch.

Nice watch, I collect railroad pocket watches myself. I was wondering where you got the box the watch is in?

hi, thanks for watching... I purchased the box on Ebay about 1 year ago. I bought it from this woman in Idaho that had purchased as a jewelry box, but it was too small for her needs. Therefore she listed on ebay. I think after the auction ended I paid about $60. I found 1 tiny signature on the back of it. I asked the lady, but she had no idea who he was. I looked online as well, but nothing. I'm pretty sure it is unique and it was hand built. I think it is from the 60s.

Paradise Road it must be from the 1800s that’s when they were made that way

@@alastortownsend6206 Serial number indicates production was 1908. Why must people spread so much misinformation. I have a watch made in 1921 here and it's this same movement, same face, same hands in a different case. Everything is the same, even the pattern scribed onto the main plate is the same though his is etched much deeper. This is indeed an entry level watch, only the nickle alloy case made for this year was cheaper to purchase and those actually wear nicer than the plated ones shown here. They made literally 532,000 of this exact same watch and put it in multiple cases for decades. Grade 288, Model 5, super common. Can purchase one in this condition or better for 50$ I have one I carry daily that has not been serviced since 1963 and it keeps time within 2 seconds a day.
