Danni, I just love that you addressed the subject of appreciation of fine things. You did it so eloquently! My daughter and I were watching this episode and were remarking how beautiful the huge carved pieces were but it would take up half our living room! But with my fathers job came a house filled with things his predecessor collected and he liked good things! I practiced on a 9-foot Steinway! Don’t feel badly when people just don’t get it!

I actually understand that sentiment at the end completely! Like I can't even afford to shop second hand stuff! Niche lady is out of my budget! 😂 But I can totally appreciate, without envy, other people's lives! They worked for their money the same as the rest of us, they just chose different paths than us that led them to a different result! I love looking at finery, of all genres of Art, and furniture, I admire so many styles, and I also know the great majority of things I come across will NEVER look good in my very small AZ dwelling. So, I tend to look for colors that will fit in with my design and vision of what will make ME feel happy in my rooms. I have blues, teal, aqua, bougie blue 😉, cobalt blue, grey, black, and silver.

I surround my living space with things of beauty … art, glass, instruments, jewelry, some by master crafters, some hobbyist piece … I don’t care if anyone else sees them, they make me happy. I have never met anyone who felt resentment of my collection, just admiration for the beauty of it all, which honors me. The signed painting was indeed a watercolor. The alleged 'wrinkling' you described has to do with the quality (and fineness) of the paper that is used. Some made has higher cotton-containing content and others are pressed in such a way, that makes them much more textured. Or less textured as it were. Also it depends on the technique an artist may use. Some are heavy on the water and flood the surface, others are more of a dry-brush technique user or fancier. Not all watercolorists will paint on paper that is "as smooth as typing paper". Which many commercial prints sadly use. Just sayin'. As a watercolorist for over 55 years, I know the deal! Happy hunting!
