I think it would be a mistake to conclude that most of these guys were gay. 100 years ago, or more, affection between two heterosexual men was very common. Also, it was very common for two men to sleep in the same bed, heterosexual men.

You have a point in that men were allowed to be more openly affectionate with each other earlier in the 20th century. However, we simply don't know the nature of these guys' relationships. I'm sure some were straight guys who were good friends, and some were guys who were in a deeper kind of relationship, what we would call "gay" nowadays.

Ok, the ones wearing pinky rings are a dead giveaway for being homosexual. It's a code ring for gay. There are photographs displaying far more than friendship. Like when on the knee of his friend. What do friends do when too much affection is too much? Arm over shoulder for each. Could be friends, could mean more. 8% of male sheep are gay. 2 papers that I know of. All sexualities I think according to Kingsley runs at about 35%? Most of the Northern Europeans are stiff upper lip for a long time; including in Germany, including Britain and North America, with physical affection between same sex. Southerners are a bit different. Most of these here are white people; I think it's more likely in the undecided photos, that they are gay or bi?

When the photos are good enough, you can see a pinky ring often. A dead giveaway. The way they hold in many are relationship love holds. Of course affection is affection, but there is also the 'you're the everything for me' hold and looks. Some look like close friends. There could be something written on the back? A question is; even if affection were acceptable greatly, would friends hold each other to that intimate extent- with that level of completeness? Compare affectionate people with countries like Indonesia and other Asian countries where holding hands can be commonplace amongst young men, is that even like a lot of these?

From old straight photos I've seen, affectionate poses were NOT definitely seen. Keep in mind, northern countries like in Europe, are not affectionate. Southern ones have greater openness. Same goes for North American lands. The pinky ring is a dead giveaway for homosexual code.
