Hi Duane! That's a nice unit you got there. It looks like the evolution of the wall-mount models of the 60's, with the compressor at the top. These are built similarly to commercial units, as well. You shouldn't have any problems with it other than possibly needing to oil the unit-bearing condenser fan motor once every 20 years or so! There are several good things about these. Due to the custom, built-in nature of these - people are forced to do the responsible thing and actually ~repair~ then instead of put in a throw-away junk model. And as you mentioned - it's 100% mechanical. The only technical parts are the defrost timer and thermostat. As for the energy usage, it's very hard to tell by the amp draw. The motor in this is a purely induction-run model. It may have a power factor of less than .8 under normal running conditions. The energy use of a fridge is more closely related to size of the cabinet, door sealing, and insulation value, than the power demand of the compressor. The compressor only runs as much as needed to make up for heat leakage into the cabinet. If it only used 3 amps (as did the antique fridges) the compressor would probably run almost constantly to do the job. The larger one uses more watts when it runs, but doesn't run as much of the time. Thanks for taking the time to share this!

From what I understand this was a $9,000-$10,000 machine when new. I recently replaced the temperature damper, door seals and a hinge cam. It's got the same unit bearing motors you presented on your channel. The compressor is replaceable as are the evaporator and condenser. This unit was built with repair in mind and it has a robust overbuilt feel. You're right about the compressor, it runs for a time and shuts off. I occasionally hear the defrost cycle running.

Yep, it probably has the hot-gas defrost system as well. That had a fairly pronounced "click - shhht" sound as it activated.

This just has an electric heater. I just replaced the thermostat.

That was definitely an expensive model. Monogram use to be the high end line of GE appliances.
