I agree with you Wallie, I would like to see this mall thrive, even though I've never been to the Lycoming. Mall. I don't like it when any mall closes. I also wouldn't buy a car in a mall. This is a mall, not a car dealership. If a mall wants to plug a nearby dealership, just put up banners or signs.

Crown American owned/ran the wyoming valley mall in wilkes-barre too. but the mall actually felt and looked better back before the remodel in 2006. the mall has a lot of leaky roofs now. and since the shutdown a lot of stores never came back.

FLEX: My Dad poured the sidewalks/concrete stuff at this monument of grooviness. Spent so many 'good report card dollars' at this mall. Bought my black Goucho hat from the Benetton circa 1988, next to the PIANO SHOP. Pianos for sale at the mall. This place also had a pet store. The mall had a unique sub-level center hub/court. When I got a car, this was THE place to drive to on a Saturday. Sadly, the Arby's just announced they are closing. Thank you for featuring the historic Hadany Arch sculpture (1978, sculptor Israel Hadany)--wonderful! My sister and I loved to stare at it to see all of the funky angles as you drove up to and past it--it was designed for that purpose, to visually distort and twist as you traveled toward, under, and away from it. Trippy and interactive. Great mall!!

I was born in Williamsport and lived there until 1987. The Lycoming Mall was my childhood mall, and I have not been inside this mall since I left in 87. This is absolutely incredible, it’s like I’m having flashbacks. I ate at that Arby’s with my parents many times, it was fuzzy in my memory before but now it’s crystal clear. The colors and the floor are exactly as I remember it. Even as a child I was fascinated with the floors in this mall. I also remember fountains in this mall, large enough to have multiple frothy type fountains if you know what I mean, with all the coins at the bottom. As a young child I would try to reach in and get the coins and my mom would yell at me lol. I’m not sure what part they were in but they must’ve been converted to just regular planters, removed completely, or something else. Thanks for this video, it really took me back to a better, more carefree time in my life in the 80s.

I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the video and walk down memory lane. Also, glad to hear that not much has changed here in terms of the aesthetics besides the fountains. When I was young I used to try and get coins out of fountains at my nearest malls. Haha As for the fountains, I only saw 2 tiny fountains so I guess they took the big ones out for the planters. Anyway, glad you enjoyed the video!

Same here bud. It is sad to see what it has become. I was born in 1990 in williamsport and still live here. This was the place to go when I was in school. It used to be so alive. You would rarely see a shop empty ever. Society is really distancing itself from one another.

Thanks for visiting this mall. My visits to this mall 1983-2000. The “upper mall” aka Lycoming was my childhood mall along with the Susquehanna mall. I moved 20 years ago when the mall was in its heyday, so I haven’t been up there since so it’s great to see what it’s up to... :). I can still name stores, and also recall where certain features used to be that were since removed during the renovations.

The Lycoming Mall was such the hub back in the day. A lot of people have already mentioned some of the amazing things that have come and gone. I used to work at the Dairy Queen back in 99-00 and glad to see it still hanging on. The fountains were a favorite part of this mall and like Matt mentioned the round circular benches they had were such a waste of space yet so fun! Kay Bee Toy Store, The Wall, Kauffman's, Woolworth's, Fun Factory (which eventually turned into the Boardwalk Blvd), Friendly's. Waldenbooks, and so many other amazing nostalgic stores. The middle of the mall you actually used to step down into it, a few steps to a flat area. I remember visiting in the mid 90's to see a soap stars: Michael Damion and Jack Wagner. They would have them in that area. You could get an autograph and a photo taken with them. This is all prior to the carousel being there. Always something to do back then. I miss those simpler times. You would make a day out of "going to the mall"-- get there early and stay all day shopping and eating your way through it. Thanks for capturing it.

I remember first going to this mall as a 7 or 8 year old child, in 1979 or 1980. I loved the orange and green circular seats which were scattered throughout the mall. Also, way before FYE was the music store, "Wee Three Records" was here. I am old enough to remember them still selling 8-track tapes, in a display case near the rear of the store (I actually still remember which title I bought there; Genesis - "Wind & Wuthering" (1976). lol. Loved the mall's archway, too. The other mall in my general area, which I frequented a bit more than this one, was the Susquehanna Valley Mall. I went to the grand opening of that mall's original anchor store, Boscov's, in December 1977. The rest of the mall opened in 1978. Memories. Hope my recollections are interesting to perhaps a few of you, who are now, like myself, approaching age 50. ( :

Such a nice looking place! I really love laid back, small town style malls like this, one reason being that they're usually filled with vintage aesthetics. Loved all the plants and flowers, and it's so rare to see that in a mall these days. It's pains me to see this place struggling, and it's so sad that they lost all of their anchors. Also sad to see the Hot Topic closing, though it's kinda weird seeing a Hot Topic that looks so bright inside. I really loved seeing that vintage Arby's, since one of my closest malls used to have an one similar to that, as well. This is also like the third old school Bath & Body Works I've seen now. Good to see that not all of them have changed to the new look. Hope this mall will make it through this virus mess and somehow turn itself around!

I hope the mall makes it through as well. Definitely not the kind of mall you see everyday anymore. I tend to notice that malls in rural areas like this tend to be more unique or have more character to them that malls near big cities. With the exception of Century III mall that we had here in Pittsburgh, the malls here are all kind of bland in my opinion. If was a shame to see stores closing when I was there including the Hot Topic which doesnt happen often. Even Hollister closing was a surprise. Anyway, hope you enjoyed the video. Wallie / Kayla (yes I've heard her voice at the start of the video, so I KNOW she was there with you back then), about the cars from a dealer being shown there. I've seen cars in malls before, but it was ALWAYS for an "auto show" (local 1-2 week exhibition of new and / or "special" cars). But in this case, those are PART OF THE USED CAR INVENTORY of the dealer (as being sold off-the-spot), which that DOESN'T BODE WELL FOR THE MALL.
@WallieB26
@WallieB26 4 жыл бұрын
All good. She was! As for cars in the malls; around Pittsburgh, some of our malls will have a few cars. Usually no more than 5 to 10 total and it's usually to promote a dealership or like you said, a car show. Otherwise, they're not to be found. Lycoming Mall was filled with used cars which I found strange. However, not as strange as when I visited the Clearview Mall in Butler, Pa a couple of years ago and it was filled with boats and fishing yachts. It was an eyesore to say the least.
