Love whenever toy boxes, Dell Comics, movie posters or things like these puzzles had painted original art. Seems to be less nowadays with PHotoshopping so easy most these seem like they're just slapped together. But I think I speak for everyone when I say the real pure gold of the video is the reveal that Little House on the Prarie had a puzzle. Think I'm sensing a whole new path for this channel.

I think it's because the toy was a preexisting toy with three heads that they just reused here. So the Tricephalon is technically two monsters retconned into one!

My guess is it was their way of having King Ghidorah on the art without having to pay to use King Ghidorah. Most people at that time would not have known a difference just like how Godzookie and Minya are often confused. Nice video. Awesome art!

Great video MIB, puzzles are pretty fun and a good time to pass and to see a puzzle on Godzilla looks pretty good. i do like the design as it looks it's based from the marvel comics ver which the art really complements it very well! The big surprise is that playset! For the time, it's pretty sweet! looking forward to it!!!!

Love this set! I had it as a child when I grew up in Chicago around 1979 or 80. Those were the good old days when the Micronauts and Shogun Warriors were also available at the local toy store. It was purchased by my uncle and mom at Toys R Us. It was so much fun! Hope to get one again one day but they are quite rare and expensive to find complete.

I really miss art like this, it's amazing! Maybe they wanted to create a Ghidorah like kaiju for Goji to fight since the licensing of the actual Ghidorah was too pricey. It's kinda like a showa Mecha-Ghidorah haha!

A few years ago on eBay someone was selling the mail in versions for the three Godzilla puzzles. They came in a simple unlabeled puzzle box and each puzzle was in a bag. The price was great and he had a few of these. Helped me get all three in one shot for normal pricing rather than collector price insanity

The scrapped 1983 Godzilla is what initially crossed my mind when I first saw these puzzles, but the body shape also reminds me of the Hanna Barbera Godzilla. In addition to the head resembling a T. Rex, both designs have muscular arms and a pudgy stomach. Also, I wonder if Tricephalon was intended to stick around in Western Godzilla merchandise. The idea of him being a three headed dragon was likely inspired by King Ghidorah, which reminds me of how the Hannah Barbera Godzilla cartoon had some kaiju that were obvious references to classic Toho kaiju. HG Toys was probably going for something similar, where Tricephalon (or the snakes from the puzzle) was a familiar concept that could be used without having to pay money to use Ghidorah. Depending on how copyright works for a creature that only appeared in a playset and a puzzle, it would probably be very easy to capitalize on a monster like Tricephalon, who probably only existed as a copyright free alternative to a Toho kaiju like Ghidorah.

How godzilla looked in that first puzzle looks exactly like marvel godzilla, except it actually looks good, It doesn't look like the unmade godzilla films, those ones looked more like the tradition trex or the 90s godzilla.

As soon as you said Earl's name, it became so obvious in hindsight this was probably his work, they have a lot of his style in them. While I've never owned one of these, I still retain an odd memory of it. My family was visiting a VERY small town in East Texas around 1981-82, and while there one night, we stopped at what was supposed to be a convenience store but it was...hard to describe...inside. Almost like a partial thrift shop, but anyway, I can remember seeing one of the smaller puzzles (which now, I no longer remember, all three "feel" like the one I saw) sitting on a shelf toward the back of the store, all by itself, most of the shelving around it was either empty or very sparse. Didn't get it, though I'm sure I at least asked. I dunno why that memory has stuck with me all these years, given how uneventful it was. The place was slightly creepy, so I guess that helped.

I wish that this Godzilla could get more recognition and some could make a a suit of him with a Gamera styled flamethrower in it's mouth. It definently does have that Steve Miner Godzilla feel to it and in another I could see this an American Godzilla remake by Universal to rival the 1976 King Kong remake if they decided ditch The Legend of King Kong. I also would nickname the suit or design as either HGGOJI or AmericanaGoji. Also I keep imagining The Tricephalon monster in my eyes to be like the hydra from Jason and The Argonauts but being a living/breathing metallic creature who can regenerates heads and shoots the laser like on the box but I imagine being like a cross between Gyaos's laser and King Ghidorah gravity. The creature absorbs enough of Godzilla's energy that it becomes it's own Mechagodzilla.

I totally agree MIB The smaller more Dinosaur Design of the Big G is too under used I personally love the Marvel comics version of Godzilla and can't wait for Marvel/Disney to wise up and ask WB or Toho to use Big G in the MCU maybe not the Legendary one himself but their own version since Toho seems to be stuffing Godzilla into any Genre they can now to see which ideas float more than ever now 🤣

i actually think this version of godzilla looks SO COOL, then again i am also a sucker for the unmade godzilla king of the monsters 3-D design from 1983, i don't know i guess i just really like the idea of a much more old school movie dinosaur looking godzilla that breaths actual fire, honestly if i ever got the chance to make a godzilla film this is the kind of design i would use, and while im at it i would probably make mothra look like a 50's giant bug version of herself in line with the deadly mantis or THEM!, same goes for the other monsters, well a few anyway, Rodan looking like a Ray harryhausen-sque giant pteranodon, or Anguirus looking like the godzilla neo design by matt frank with some charles knight flare to it, but yeah this design is so freaking awesome.

Here’s my idea for an origin story for the tricephalon monster, it’s a creature from the Draco constellation, it was created by the inhabitants of the Draco constellation and sent to earth, they sent another head for backup. I like to call the beams coming from it’s spazer beams, another origin story Idea is that it was sent by the space dark lord and Godzilla teams up with a kyodai hero to fight him.

I'd say legendary's take on Godzilla is the closest thing to the dinosaur looking Godzilla. I would be surprised if they were inspired by these artworks or perhaps the aurora model.
