Vintage Inspired Valentine’s Day Tree

Hi Becky, Absolutely darling and so much inspiration, thank you!! I've decided for next year, I want to add some pink to my trees. Currently all the décor and ornaments are red: red hearts, cupids, birds, etc. and most are glittered. The birds were an amazing "after Christmas" find a few years ago, a few are from World Market, the others from a now defunct craft store. I don't have squirrel issues but I definitely have crow problems. The big crows love to knock over the outside décor.

Looks great! I love all of the vintage and vintage "inspired" ornaments, lol. I think I like this tree even better than last year's, to be honest. The missing ribbon may have been a happy accident and could've taken the attention away from the beautiful ornaments, which seem really special. Great job, Becky!! ❤️

My husband had mice chew the wiring in his truck. When he took it into the shop, he was told that China is coating the wires that are used in a lot of places, in some kind of plant-based coating now, which is attractive to rodents. Cost us a pretty penny! Love the picture of young David and Becky ❤. You can also use hair spray to seal glitter items. A little tip if you forget your ribbon on the tree is to put it on vertically instead of horizontally. Just drape it down and tuck it in a few spots. I love your tree!

It's funny you say that, my boss just spent 4,000 dollars from wire damage from a rodent in his car. (fairly new Cadillac) We aren't sure but assumed it was a rat that did it. I had never heard of this before him and now I hear of it happening to you too.

Squirrels are very destructive. I’ve had them shred cushions on a swing and chew through wires in a car parked in the driveway not to mention the countless flower pots they have ruined from burying acorns in them! On a happier note, I love decorating small trees for all the holidays and seasons too.

I put out red lights for Valentines day After Christmas 2 years ago I swapped out all the C7 bulbs that were on my outddoor tree for red ones that I orderd from Amazon The squirrels never touched the other colors during Christmastime I wonder if its because theyre red they are attracted to them? Your tree is absolutely gorgeous I love all the handmade ornaments what an inspiration !!!

It makes me wonder because honestly I have never had them bother my lights before. I even found one of the red plastic hearts in my BACK yard that they seemed to be trying to take back home with them. They really seemed to like these lights.

You did not do anything wrong…those squirrels are ornery! They chewed on my outdoor swing cushions and used the material to build their own warm nests. You may not need it, Becky, but, oh, that want! Thank you for asking, She is still staying with us. She works full time and when she is not working she is spending time with friends and just trying to get on with her life. Her home sold a couple of weeks ago so she doesn’t have that to worry about anymore thank The Lord. My hope is that she can find herself back on her feet again soon.

Becky I like the tree without the ribbon. You have enough ornaments on it to make a beautiful display. We have squirrel issues also. They are destructive little critters and they just make themselves right at home on my front porch. They just stretch out rest like it’s there property. They destroyed my round jute rug I got at Hobby Lobby and I’ve caught them on the cushions of my wicker chairs. I’m so ready for them to move on. Any ideas?

I wish I knew what to do. I have never had destruction from them before. My friend that lives down the street told me that one chewed the main breaker wires on their home on Christmas day and their power went out. I would have been so mad if that had happened on Christmas Day of all days.

I have that exact same tree from DG. When I pulled it out of the box I about panicked, it was so pitiful looking. After fluffing it for literally an hour it actually turned out great😅

Squirrels chew on wires all the time to file down their teeth. Otherwise they would grow very long and they couldn't eat.

Some wiring has soy based plastic resins which attracts squirrels and other rodents. Not sure if this the case here or not.

someone else said that too. They said it was used in wiring in cars. My boss just had to pay out 4k for repairs from a squirrel eating the wires in his Cadillac. He was not happy!
