Cool video as always. These Mego figures were my #1 toy back in the 70s, even above GI Joe's later sci-fi phase. In the US back then every yardsale seemed to have a handful of heads and assorted clothing accessories letting us eventually piece together a figure (the precursor to build-a-figures in a way). But Robin seemed to be one of the ones never around. I had his maskless Dick Grayson head and maybe one of these heads and a glove or two. But that did lead to my early attempts at customizing. This head became a very dodgy Bucky and Zan from Space Ghost and then several generic domino masked adventurers. Really wish we'd had a show like yours back then.

It was 1971 and Mego did the best they could. They made much better gloves later on but sadly, and perhaps oddly, they never updated the earlier figures. Batman, Robin, Superman and Aquaman were the first 4 figures but never got updated accessories.

For frayed cloth, maybe one could use a measured amount of the glue that sewers use to help keep it from further fraying.

FYI: One arm pops outward which stops the other from moving to emulate a karate chop. It is designed to do this. Push the shoulders inward, toward the chest to lock them together for "fist fighting" action. Great job as usual Sir.

I've been told gentle progressive applications of CLR can take away stains on vintage vinyl without leaving discolored spots the way the Benzoyl Peroxide does. This method is used on green ear that vintage barbies get so whether it works on everything I couldn't say.

Robin's ready for action! I used to have the Batman, Robin and Spiderman. All hand-me-downs, but man were they great. I have no idea what happened to them. Lost to the toy thief in the sky. I managed to snag some Humbrol paints too - I thought you just used the matt black on Star Wars figures - which ones need the gloss mixed too?
@AvengerII6 жыл бұрын
"toy thief in the sky" = Mom, the girlfriend, or the wife threw them out "for you" That's usually the reality of the situation... You DON'T lose things. Other people throw them out for you but rarely tell you they did that!

A pretty cheap Canon Ink jet printer. But it does the job. You can get way better ones as this is now a few years old.

I would stitch a hem on the cloak to prevent the fraying and any were else it was possible.
@toypolloi7 жыл бұрын
Not really possible on this type of fabric. You would end up making the cape very small to get enough to sew into. Or at least I would.
@lordmalvada82127 жыл бұрын
I suggested it cause I had the same issue when I was a child with my Superman figure and that is what my Grandmother did.

What do you use for fixing the plastic discolouration? I could quite make it out. Also, going back to your quest for some slime for the MOTU slime pit, the stuff that comes with Hot Wheels Slime Racers from DeAgostini works really well, as it's very fluid. They're only small pots, so it would need 3-4 to have a worthwhile amount. I went with the flourescent yellow, as I think that's the closest to the original colour, seen in the old commercials.
@toypolloi7 жыл бұрын
The ink removal is covered fully here kzbin.info/www/bejne/fpqVlqmBeqiXrpIOthers have mentioned the hotwheels sets as well. I will take a look. Cheers

If only Robin's hands were green and gloved with finger separation it would be looking far more realistic, as Sideshow Toys has. But Mego is less detailed and less priced, so that has to be taken in consideration. Nice restoration.
