Funny how here, in Brazil, all mercury vapor lamps are coated! I've never seen one being clear

The /C Sylvania lamp is a 'color improved' lamp using manganese doped magnesium fluorogermanate phosphor, which was introduced by Westinghouse in 1950 and used until the vastly superior europium doped yttrium vanadate took over in the early 1960s. The girder lamps were made from 1963 until the late 1970s.

will a mercury vapor ballast make any humming noise if there is a blown bulb in it?

I had a couple of blown mercury bulbs to try and my ballast was quite silent while testing them.

That depends. If it's an HX, lag, CWA, or CWI ballast, yes, but a reactor ballast, no, because a reactor ballast is in series with the bulb, so, no load, no noise.

i have i believe a 175 watt mercury vapor bulb but there is not any markings on it anywhere and i can't figure out what type it is it is huge and it barely fits in my hand but i have no idea what it is i also don't know the fixture brand either due to it being high up on my garage any help figuring it out would be appreciated
