At 13 seconds in... Oh my! My 1st "real" dirt bike, the 75' Honda Elsinore 125. 1st year of the 6 speed tranny, I think, only 170 lbs dry weight. Thanks Kaplan America. You are always showing bikes I have owned. Are you reading my mind? lol

I had both the 74 and 75. The 6 speed gearbox actually started coming in the 74 models but you were close!

My dad had a 76 rm 370. It had a big inch jug and lots of rave stuff. Had 12 inches of travel front and rear. Some after market swingarm . fox air shocks. Was fast for it time..thanks for the memories.

The AMA wanted nothing to do with SX when it was invented here, and they had nothing to do with free market bike development of the 2-stroke. Why do we think government created everything we do, when it does not have the brains to do anything but take over what we built? It is now that we make and ride what government wants us to build and ride, (4-strokes that WERE FORCED o the industry),----no matter how much it destroys the market. Now I did not know the AMA is actually an arm of the FIM until the 2001 promotion dispute, but if you want to see how great that government is, go check out the 26 guys on a 40 racer gate of the FIM MXGP main motos. Yea, the sport was much healthier with 2-strokes,---and it was government's/FIM/AMA that hurt this sport---THAT FREE PEOPLE BUILT!!!! You also believe the state owns you.

Oh, we have to go into histroy a bit mor3e than one data point, to see if we can recognize a pattern of destruction. Making $1.00/hr part time starting at the age of 10 New 1976 Kawasaki KD125 $750.00 New 78 YZ100, $800.00. New 1979 YZ125 (bought left over in the spring of 1980. Sold it in 82, bought it back in 83) $850.00 Used 1982 YZ250 in 84 in good shape, started racing $850.00, started paying for part time college too. FIM 1986 PRODUCTION RULE FORCE, ONLY FOR THE USA! ! FIM 1986 PRODUCTION RULE FORCE, ONLY FOR THE USA! ! FIM 1986 PRODUCTION RULE FORCE, ONLY FOR THE USA! ! Bikes tripled in cost in 5 years. No kid with a entry level job ever bought a new bike again. New 1986 YZ250 $2,300 New 1988 CR250 $3,200 (and a new 1987 mini truck for $8,700, last me till 93, sold it ion good shape) (250 mx bike leveled out to about $5,000 by the early 90's) 1997--4-STROKE FORCED ON THE INDUSTRY! 4-STROKE FORCED ON THE INDUSTRY! 4-STROKE FORCED ON THE INDUSTRY! Bikes over double again since that outside intervention. Yamaha, the manufacturing spearhead for both the production rule and the 4-stroke forced on the industry,--is the only Jap brand making a full sized 2-stroke. Ironic huh? See what they did? Are we seeing a pattern here yet? Because this pattern of government interference has destroyed 90% of the market share this sport once had. No? Not seeing it? Well---it was great while it lasted.

Yea, if we rode them, we miss them. But do you know what else you miss that is never mentioned? Being able to touch both feet on the ground. Bikes are stupid tall today. Even the 2-strokes that have had 12" of suspension travel since 1980/81, and I know how that happened. MXA used to complain about a couple 2-strokes that were too tall back then, (A Euro bike, usually), and now there is no such thing. Yes,---there is. It is also a big factor on why amateurs today suck with corner speed and can't turn with out a berm.
