Sorry but that is 100% wrong! I have an old polaris like this except a 700 with a 151 track... it doesnt go nearly as many places as my 2006 rev does, and my rev is old compared to the new sleds out there!.

snowmachineman I disagree. The old stuff can be reliable but track lug and length along with the horsepower of the newer stuff kills a stock old sled. The new stuff is equal to a built up custom hill climber from back in the day.

Sure they run just as good - on flat hardpack, which is a huge caveat given that mountain sleds are designed to virtually never ride on flat hardpack except the logging road up the mountain.

I had a 98 RMK 700 with a 136 x 1-3/4” track. I used to haul it to to Golden and Revy from Edmonton behind an old 85 Chevy 1/2 ton 2WD. Neither unit ever let me down. Some good winter tires on that pickup and it went everywhere the big $$$ rigs went. That RMK took more abuse than any newer Skidoo would even look at before bustin’ a nun! Lol

Great video, I love seeing folks with the older sleds keep up with the newer ones, I have a 2001 yamaha mountain max 700 triple that can keep up with big dogs for the most part, riding those older sleds makes you better on the newer ones.

I have both also (2002 RMK800), 850 Doo. However I enjoy the new sleds. Better suspension, more upright ergonomics, EFI (no more jetting), More fuel efficient, and not having to buy donor sled for parts.

We have 7 sleds in the family from 2005 to 2019. The 05 is a 700 RMK with a 151 track. It has over 8600 miles and just got rebuilt 300 miles ago. The other 6 sleds aren't doing this well on the motors. The 05 is a keeper.

@@FeederCountry True, RMKs didn't come out until LATE 1990s (1995 SKS models had a paddle track 1.5") BUT the first TRUE deep snow Polaris sled (15x156) was The SuperTrak (I had a 1990 Indy Trail SuperTrak) and though it had less than HALF the power of that 800, with its 488cc Fanner, it was rescue teams used in the mountains, before your 175hp 175" monsters of today....and THAT is TRUE vintage sonny!

Shoot, old guys used to get truly vintage sleds in some weird places with 116” long tracks way back when paddles were something used in conjunction with a canoe. Have pictures of my dad on top of Packer John Lookout sitting on his Rupp Scorpion. I get up there now on my “vintage” 1996 151 670 Doo and wonder how in the heck he could get that old hunk of junk up there with its 20hp and 4” deep tunnel...

Sounds like ya might need a spark plug. My 99 cat 700 did the same thing. Topped at 6000 reps and i put new plugs in it and it ran like a top

I bought this sled uses. The previous owners had it jetted for 4-6k feet. I was riding it at 8-10k. I have fixed the jetting and the clutching since I shot this video.

ACCS deleted or did the 800 not come with it? Why didn't you bring some spare jets and spend ~20 minutes swapping them out so you could at least ride full RPM while up high? Bring some that are 3-4 bigger. Awesome to see these old sleds out! Dusting off my 00 and 05 soon now that snow is here!

The sled was running WAY to rich. It was jetted for low elevation riding. It also had the wrong clutch weights in it. That's what happens when you buy a used sled and don't check anything before going up high. Runs like a champ now. Also is getting NOS installed.
