I was looking for help in achieving Randy rhoads' tone on his live rig, I watched "Believer" live and a soundcheck in Texas. His guitar sounds so huge! But without giving "anything away", the effects are so subtle, I could not tell what he was using. Thanks to a friend of mine that shed some light on the matter, he showed me this video and I can't believe, I would never guess! Flanger! Holy smokes, sounds great! Thanks for the video

I can't hear a flange and not think of John Mcgeoch. Listen to the album Juju by Siouxsie and the Banshees. I want a vintage flanger to recreate the sound that I love

I have this flanger, or at least the green one. I was told it has been discontinued, sadly, like a few other MXR pedals I would like to have. I just wanted to say this is not only a great demo, but a great tutorial on the pedal. In fact, I use this video as a go-to tutorial for my own flanger. Thank you so much for you time.

SecularUnderpants You're welcome. How'd you fry your pedal?
@alnjgove8uifjbkelbfg9 жыл бұрын
I used a crappy voltage converter that was more suited for something like a hair dryer and after a few uses the pedal died. However I have a proper converter now and the pedal sounds great.

Eddie definitely tweaked his normal setting on hear about it later. Sounds much closer when you changed it a little bit. Eddie said he always used the same settings but I think he might have been lying about that one! It definitely has a different sweep on the distorted chords section it doesn't seem to do that warble at the bottom of the sweep which his standard setting gets.

I have the new version and have trouble getting that sound. I'm wondering if the resonance on the vintage one was less extreme when it's on full

What, no variac? ;) :D Just kiddin'! Nice demo of the original vintage MXR-117, thanks! Some of the classic examples played may have originally been recorded with a phaser, and not a flanger, but then again, sometimes it's hard to tell! Sounds great.

Great pedal, I own one as well. I purchased it back in the late 70's. Just brought it back out again. Question Mark, what kind of distortion pedal are you using? Thanks
@markygmusic5 жыл бұрын
This is just the built-in distortion in the amplifier, a Peavey Envoy 110.

Hi . So this pedal can simulate the chorus and phaser sounds using the regen ? Thanks
@mikkywhalan Жыл бұрын
You can get similar to a chorus, though it won’t be a true chorus sound. My settings are Manual: 8:30 Width: 8:30 Speed: 10:30-1:00 Regen: Off

Fantastic demo, thank you! What was the overdrive (pedal?) you kicked on there? Great tone and playing!
@markygmusic7 жыл бұрын
Thank you! It's the built-in overdrive on my 3rd gen Peavey 110 amplifier (or whatever the last generation to be made in the USA was.) Would highly suggest the amp.

Interesting you started with the Pink Floyd stuff considering that David Gilmour used an Electric Mistress. I happen to have a new MXR Micro Flanger (the two knob one) and a Hartman Flanger (Electric Mistress copy) on my current pedal board and they both sound great, but the MXR sounds has a bit more bottom end, so these people that think that the Electric Mistress is the only way to do Gilmour are wrong, and you demonstrate that here. I am really looking for a sound that John McGeoch made in Siouxsie and the Banshees "Voodoo Dolly" that I believe he used an MXR Flanger to make, maybe with something else. I didn't hear it your video, but nevertheless it is a decent demo of the pedal. Thanks.

Violet Deliriums Yes, this is what I had read and it's wrong even as far as The Banshees; tonetribune.com/2012/09/25/mxr-m117-flanger-and-john-mcgeoch/ I just took a glance at this; www.guitargeek.com/chat/complete-rig-27/siouxsie-banshees-14380/ Right after I watched this video I bought a Deluxe Electric Mistress from Amazon - the last one. I listened to Rush at Pink Pop 1979, read one comment from somebody who bought an XO and that was it.
