Holly Molly! I came here to see how you made the battery cover expecting you 3D printed it but WOW I did not expect to see you fabricate it by hand! I love that! My 3D printer is still in the box it was shipped in because I am a little afraid of the learning curve but also I just keep finding ways around having to print the items I need such as you did.

Thanks. I like to make as much by hand as I can. 3D prints are fine, but make for a boring video. And I also like to think anyone can have a go at copying what I do without the need for expensive equipment. Cheers

I'm forever blown away by what you're able to do with styrene. It's a shame you couldn't get the electronics fully working, but at least it does something now! Off I go to see if Retro Tech was able to take it the rest of the way to restored!

Great job on the handle. Really interesting how you built up that corner. I like that the color shade is slightly off because it will be a subtle reminder of the effort you made to repair the damage.

@@toypolloi oh believe me. after seeing how you modeled that handle and battery cover, you could EASILY make your own Toy. even if it was a Sword or Cosplay type thing, or Robot or what have you. but you got the skills for certain. you should give it a try!

I’d look for a diagram of the board online and I’d personally unsolder all the wires and redo them all. Check that lightening button to make sure it’s not constantly making contact to the board as well. And finally, I’d invest in purchasing a 3D printer for stuff like the battery cover.

@Toy•Polloi there's a quick way to tell if the circuit board is the issue or not. All you have to do is remove the button from shell then resemble it and test it with the batteries. If it continues to make sound with the button removed from the shell, the circuit board is the issue but, if it stops making sound without the button, the button is the issue and it's making contact with the switch. one thing i learned while doing my own electronic project is that if you have a bad or wrong wire connection problem you can get the same problem you have here

I think at some point a kid was playing a bit too rough with this sword and it wouldn't stop making the sounds, and they possibly tossed it onto the ground in frustration? The battery cover you built is absolutely fantastic, you can't even tell that it's a replacement!

excellent work as always dave, when artists restore missing parts of paintings there's a technique used where the colors are stroked on like fine dashes, showing clearly its a repair

Really enjoyed this video. You always do a great job when restoring these old toys. I had this sword as a kid and remember it being cheaply made at the time. You could tell the blade was fragile and not meant for hitting things lol. Keep up the great work and thanks for all the work you put in .

Getting spray colours which match can be a pain. What I ended up doing when I had problems was I found a place which mixes up custom paint colours for cars and took a sample of the colour I needed. Costs a bit more than an off the shelf colour but you can get a lot closer as they have sample cards which you can compare them against.

I have the Havoc Staff from this line, well the top half anyway. The bottom is just a thing plastic tube made to look like a stick. Never did find this thing. It's a cool piece, great job man as always. got 80% there. Still a victory.

Such mysteries! Where'd the screw go on the circuit board? That's the kind of thing that makes me consider the long history of this fun object. Who had it? Did somebody attempt to fix it and failed, AND lost a screw? It makes me picture the previous owners and what they're doing now. Fun video!

It's probably obvious to say, but it'd be worth checking both sides of the board to see that nothing's shorted out over time. Might also be worth assembling without the two offending buttons to see if they're the cause. If removing the buttons works, what may have happened (going from what I can see and other similar toys I've had to shut up before) is the rubber on the little press-down connectors perishes, and the buttons sorta droop into constant contact. The battery cover and repair is absolutely excellent work!!

You’re så good at mixing paint… would have gone Humbrol bronze and Then mix and match and paint with a soft brush. Your skills certainly can do it.

I had one of these, but I broke the blade off and painted it black with ancient Humbrol enamel paint that never really dried properly so I could use it as a PKE Meter prop.

Interesting thing, despite the rest of the New Adventures toyline tanking this sword apparently sold absolute gangbusters and made Mattel a fortune. I guess kids just really love playing with cool looking light-up swords and don't care which property it comes from.

The electronics problem looks to me like a short on the lightning button. Pressing it does nothing as it is already permanently active. Pressing other button causes two circuits to become active which stops them both working as they are fighting each other. Releasing the button ends the conflict which starts up the sounds again from the shorted button.

Wonderful work, as always. I’m curious, Dave - is there a reason you don’t invest in a low cost airbrush? You could custom mix paints, and the finish is much nicer than a spray can. Thanks for producing such cool content!

there are lots of reasons why the buttons might not work correctly, including bad capacitors and broken solder joints (very hard to see with the naked eye sometimes), but my money is on those contact pads for the two upper buttons and the conductors in the switches; it might be as simple as cleaning everything with alcohol and a toothbrush/cotton bud. edit: just watched RTR's fix, he did a great job and got another subscriber :)

If u use ca glue. Put the glue. Then spray Acelalator. U can layer the break and it will dry really fast. Then sand and sculpt. I used to fix my shogun warrior limbs
