I don't know much about clothes, but I too love stuff from the 60's and 70's. I was born in 1980, but if I could have chosen a year to be born in it would have been about 1960 so I would've got to be a child in the 60's and a teenager during the 70's. I love to collect and work on anything "vintage". Things were built so much sturdier and made to last. It's also a lot easier to get parts for things made back then as they were meant to be repaired and not thrown away. So much of the stuff made today you can't even work on yourself. Even tractors and agricultural equipment are made so that only dealers with expensive tools can troubleshoot problems, only to sell you on throwaway parts that cannot be fixed. Cars have become the same way. The days of fixing things yourself has unfortunately gone by the wayside. Sadly we have become a throwaway society for just about all of the goods that we buy. It's good to here that there are folks like y'all who have such an affinity for all things vintage, even though there are things from the modern world we would hate to be without. Loved the video. Hope y'all have a blessed day.
@thepressleygirls3 жыл бұрын
Yes that’s exactly it! In the day you could fix things, but now everything is meant to be thrown away so you can’t even fix it, it drives me crazy! Yes the 60’s and 70’s would have been an awesome time to be alive. Thanks for watching! 🙏🥰

Love vintage shirts. Polyester is great, won't shrink, fade. I am a seamstress. What I notice (and like)about vintage clothing is the shoulder seam is in the proper place. What Katie is wearing is a good example. It is at the very top of the shoulder. That makes it elegant and fit properly. Check some vintage silks. They have staying power. I found a Shark brand hand-held steamer thrifting.($3.99!) I use it for wrinkles for clothes, curtains, even cleaning! Sewing is not hard. Get a machine, learn how to thread it. Usually that diagram is on the machine. That way you can alter clothing too. I'm considering adding long sleeves to dresses I find. I had that track suit in green. Also everyone said matching jackets and skirts suits are out of style, but I'm not listening!

There is a great deal to appreciate and admire about you girls, and one of the many things is your choice of modest, classic, vintage attire. And when you're wearing it you make it look great. Even when you're working or relaxing around home and wearing your most casual attire (feeding the chickens, tending the garden, fishing rocks out of the creek, having a picnic in the woods with your parents, practicing your instruments, or whatever you're doing), you always look good; never cheap or tawdry. Kudos to both of you for being yourselves, and not letting contemporary, fleeting and/or stupid fads and "fashion trends" influence you. That includes your noisy 1980s track suit, Katie. ;^)

I graduated High School in '75 so all of that is right up my alley. The dress you believe was a mini dress from the sixties is definitely a 60s mini dress. Simplicity had a pattern for that dress and all of us girls had dresses made from that style. Some were in wools for winter, others in cotton prints for summer. We had tons of fashion belts to wear at the waist in bright colors, plastic rings chained together, tied belts with fringe. Total blast from the past. It was THE dress in junior high for us. The blouses were the stable of every lady's office wear. You would have solid-colored slacks, skirts, and blazers then brighten them up and show your "style" by picking fun patterns and colors for the blouses. Every girl in the 70s learned the hard way that you did not iron polyester.

It is definitely refreshing to see young ladies such as yourselves speaking out about your values of modesty and other characteristics that you were taught and raised up in through your family and your lives to make the wonderful mindful women you both are today. Never loose that or compromise your values for anyone, if that situation ever arises, whomever is making you choose is of no value in your life, and cut them out. God sends us 'tests', to exercise our beliefs, faith, and morals. Remember, a beautiful gem/stone does not come out of the ground looking as beautiful as it can be, that beauty only comes after the lapidarist cuts, grinds, polishes the stone with force, grit and friction/heat. He does the same with us. We go through life with ups and downs, as He polishes us (His gems) to be as beautiful as we can be.

This video was so fun, especially the bloopers! I just really love your whole family. From watching many of your Mom's videos, I discovered that she and I were born in the same year and, interestingly, got married the same year also. So the 70s was my first decade of life. It was so groovy! (J/K, I never really talked like that.) Just a few highlights: The only polyester I remember having was my church suit, which was navy blue. I remember it as hot and scratchy, and I couldn't wait to get home and get out of it. One outfit I remember from the early 70s was a burgundy pair of corduroy pants I wore with a mustard yellow turtleneck. In the late 70s my brother had a wine-colored satin disco shirt with a little yellow half-sun sewn onto the left chest, and I thought it was so cool I wore it to school without his permission. It was not worth the butt-kicking I got. In the early 80s, terry cloth shirts became popular and I had a few of those, but they were kind of scratchy. It was like wearing a bath towel. Yikes! It was a great time to grow up, thanks for bringing back memories!

I absolutely Love you all! You remind me of me (growing up) in so many ways. I grew up in the Applachian mountains of WV and also lived in Bryson City, NC area for about 10 years. My daughter lives in Sylva, NC and I visit her regularly. I currently live in middle Ga. I just recently came across 60 years of vintage items while helping a friend clean out her Mother's house, to get rid of these items. She was definitely a shop-aholic and hoarded 60 years worth of stuff. So many clothes and lots still have the sales tag on them! There is a huge amount of dresses, skirts, slacks, scarves and accessories... and more. Also found about 20 handmade aprons, I believe are for a child. Her Mother used to sew alot so my guess is some of the clothes are handmade too. I'm saying to my friend, " the Pressley girls would love this and this and this, lol. My friend asked me " who are the Presley girls" so I had to go to the internet to introduce you all to her. Anyway, if you think you may be interested in any of this stuff you can let me know. I can send pics of the stuff. We can definitely work something out if you don't mind paying for the shipping and a very, very low price on any of the clothing. Also, I can bring items with me when I visit my daughter and we could meet somewhere local to you, there in NC. If you have any interest in any of it and would like pictures just let me know. Thanks and God Bless 😁

Love getting to know you better. Born in 1957 graduated high school in 1975. Not much of a fashion guy....I've worn bib overalls and flannel shirts most of my life. My mom would yell at me that I couldn't wear my denim bibs to church. So I went out and bought a pair of all white painter bibs to wear to church with a nice shirt and tie. Its no wonder she had grey hair!

Good job as usual Katie and Corie. Y'all are such good, wholesome entertainment. I just think it's so funny that I just spent 30 minutes watching you two talk about clothes and I really enjoyed it. You have such an ability to make people relate to you and care about you. Looking forward to the next video. I hope both of you have a great week.

The 70's were my teen years and I had a great time. Wasn't into the polyester thing except for a few work shirts but I saw it everywhere. I'm still close to the woman who was my high school sweetheart back in 1977 and she has a closet full of polyester clothes along with leather jackets and boots. Much of them still fit her and she wears them often and that always takes me back in time. The two of you would have fit right in.

Thanks for showing us your lovely outfits! Your Granny is so talented- that 3 piece brown suit she made is my favorite. And I like the black blouses (the ones with the same pattern, but one short sleeved and the other long). I wear mostly cotton because where I live, polyester would stick to my skin. But it'd be a perfect choice for the fall/winter. Like you, I get frustrated shopping in stores where everything's low-cut and not put together very well. I wear mostly capris pants; skirts and dresses. You girls are hilarious!! Haha! God bless!

I graduated HS in 1970. The brand I remember is Act III. My mother wore that. Polyester was really popular. Mother wore polyester pant suits and Daddy liked the comfortable leisure suits. He had to wear a uniform to work-airline pilot. When he was off work there were no ties for him😂. I had a polyester shirt dress I loved. It was paisley. Deep green with pink and purple swirls I think. Those were the days (she said, wistfully)🤗

Those were great days I just know it, even those I missed it by two decades lol! Also that’s so sweet that she wore that brand! I’m sure the leisure shirts were comfy and they looked cool too!

This brings back memories! Most of my clothes were homemade until the eighties when I was a mom of lots of little ones. I sewed some of mine and some of their clothes but less and less.

Oh my stars, y’all are just the sweetest young ladies. I lived my teen years through the 70’s and the polyester fashions. Lol, well y’all are hilarious, but y’all are right it had a lot of good qualities, but some draw back too. The clothes back then were definitely way better quality than they are now. I have a tendency to wear something I actually like to the point it falls apart. It’s just hard finding fashions that don’t show everything you got now days and that just ain’t me. It’s been fun going down fashion memory lane with y’all. Thank y’all for sharing!

Oh girls 😊 That purple zig zag top looks like the top I wore with my purple hip hugger jeans in 1972. But I grew up in hot west Texas so I really suffered the hot polyester things and was glad for my cotton things too. Yall are so unique. You go for what you like not what the popular mags say. Stay that way. God Bless yall.

Y'all just took this old feller back to high school in the seventies. Platform shoes, leisure suits, and high ankle moccasins with rolled up levi's, and don't get me started on Earth Shoes. So glad to see young folks who know what "Saturday Night Fever" was. I was leaving for the Army right after the movie came out so I didn't really get into those styles. The Army really did change my dress code. I can guarantee you that the John Travolta white disco suit doesn't really fit a guy with a shaved head. LOL I love watching your videos. Looking forward to the next. Have a blessed day.

I was a little girl in the 70s and my favorite pants were the softest navy corduroy bell bottoms with orangey red little flowers all over . I loved them so much I almost wore them every day. Then we moved from chicago to central Indiana to a snooty city with snooty schools. I got teased by the kids for wearing them so often and because it didn’t have a name brand tag. I was shamed into not wearing them that often, and I can remember the day they didn’t fit anymore. Made me so sad! Without being too long winded I had a neighbor from India about fifteen years ago. She told me that Indian women felt sorry for American women who, in general, were all wearing plain, boring clothing. She traveled to India once a year to buy her clothes and there were SO many color, pattern, texture, style options in what she brought back. It was amazing! That’s how clothes were back in the day…beautiful with colors and patterns and good quality. Thanks for sharing!! That was fun!!

I graduated high school in 1976. I’m 63. The style was polyester shirts, hip-hugger chords, platform shoes and gunny sax brand dresses here in California. I don’t know how you girls can know what brands were popular because all I can remember were Levi’s, Gunny Sax, bare traps (shoes). You must’ve been researching. Interesting video. Thank you.

Oh what a great show today! I was a young gal in the 70's (jr. and high school) and had many polyester dresses, also a 3 piece navy wool suit (yes, wide bottoms). Other non polyester clothes were crinkle peasant shirts and dresses (look for Gunny Sax). Your video brought back some great memories of my clothes. Thanks!

Polyester doesn't seem to wear out except maybe at the seams! You have some cute patterns. Neat Granny still has some pieces for you. I wore some, sewed some, and melted a couple. Definitely need a thick pressing cloth if have to touch it up. Ha! I prefer breathable cottons these days.♥️

Ladies, I was born in 76, and well into the mid 80s I wore hammie downs as my mama called them. These were some of the wildest shirts with snap buttons and butterfly collars. By my teenage years I had became a rebel without a clue and decided my choice of style was 50s greaser look. My idols being Elvis and Robert michum.
