I wish the Transatlantic accent was still in use. It's such a pleasant accent to listen to.

I forgot what the accent was called. I believe it was called transatlantic accent but I could be wrong. But it was a mix of American and British accent. They used it on movies and radios so people listening could understand what they were saying! :)

It's their transatlantic accent. The accent fell into disuse in the 1960s.

@@kam_loves_cats The interesting thing is that even Helen Keller had a bit of a Transatlantic accent, so it's something she some how managed to pickup.

Because of the limitations of microphones and radio signals, people had to speak in a way that would amplify the mid tones. If you listen closely, the “s” and “t” sounds don’t sound very clear because they’re in the high tones, and there isn’t a lot of deepness or bass in their voice. If you tried to speak normally into a microphone from back then people wouldn’t be able to understand what you were saying over the radio. Many people today believe that people spoke with a “transatlantic” accent back in those days, but its not true. Because people spoke that way in radio, tv, and film there has been a ret conning of what people actually sounded like back in those days because there isn’t a lot of recordings of people’s normal accents. In reality your great grandfather spoke not so different from how you speak today.

Thank you so very much for this! It's a luxury to be able to venture into the past with 70 years of retrospective knowledge. As they say, If we only knew then what we know now! One thing I just don't understand, there is one thumbs-down. How can anyone disapprove of the news and commentary from yesteryear? You can never logically disapprove of these things. Other than the editorials, they are arbitrary and random incidents. Again, I thank you.
