Man that box really gave me flashback to my childhood when me & my sister got to look at my moms Barbiecollection from the mid 60s. We weren’t allowed to play with them but if we were careful we got to change the dolls clothes before putting them back in their boxes. I always loved looking at those old dolls & the clothes they had, they always felt magical to childme. If theres one thing I would love to inherit from my mom when that day comes it would be those dolls.

Do you know if this sort of “scars” she has on both sides of her face (from hair line down to the temples) are typical for European side part bubble cuts? Or did all bubble cuts from the same years have them?

Ooh very good question! I am actually not sure.. I’ve seen quite a few variations of the bubble cut with the hairline indentation at the sides. Perhaps they initially traced where they thought the hairline should go and then realized the amount of hair might’ve been too much and just decided to leave the head mold as it is? Who knows..

I would call this more of a conservation that a restoration as you did very little that couldn't be undone at a later date. It's a fine line between restoring an item and conserving an item. But when you want to make it look good but not brand new and use methods that could be undone (I'm talking mostly about the box at this point) than that's conservation in my eyes. Conservation is much more important to me than full restoration.

Well yeah, when you get down to the nitty gritty, everything I did to the doll is more of a conservation job. The box however is kind of a grey area considering it would probably be impossible to undo what I did 😅

She’s absolutely beautiful! I had one question about the denture tablet solution. I’ve tried it myself and it doesn’t seem to work very well - did you change the tablets out daily or do you leave them to soak for a week or two?

Beautiful and awesome Box restore too! if you love them, no time is too much or too much effort!! I'm right now experimenting with using Needle Felt roving and PVA glue to restore eyelash ridges on my first-ever Titian Bubble cut and to me it's so worth the time to save a great doll

I don’t! That makes it irreversible. If anything I add clear varnish on top of the painted areas which is reversible in case I ever decide to go back to the original condition :)

Thanks so much for video. Any tips on Curling & rerooting the Bubblecut Platinum Barbie? The only hair fiber closest I can find is a high temperature Monofiber under the name of Hanlon, unless You know of a Supplier?

Funnily enough it’s super easy to style, just curl it around like a chopstick and it’ll hold its shape. I have no knowledge of any similar fibers, but I’ll definitely look into monofiber!

My bubblecut doll head is darkened with age. How long do I leave my doll head in the denture tablet water to get lighter? Is it ok to soak for 24 hours. Will it affect the glue that holds the hair in?

There is no glue holding the hair in, so you’re good to go :)

Do you put anything on the face before you begin to paint? Like a varnish or a couple coats of mr super clear?

On restoration jobs I avoid MSC as I want to leave the option of returning to the original state. I’ll usually go with a thin coat of sealant underneath the lips just to prevent bleeding as red tends to stain :)
