i remember always had the most fun building these kits. racing them i got bored quite fast. adding the fear of destroing them. but in my fathers rc world, rc gliders. there also were guys who loved to build these planes and often even gave them ( on our little hill side) to someone (of course who their trusted) who really had fun to give them a go

My neighbor in ‘87 had one. Was the coolest thing I had ever seen at 7 years old. He worked at Kirk R/C in Carmel, IN in the 80-90s. They made a prototype of an all wheel steer Optima. All this brings me back, have a kit on order, with a Futaba .

Beautiful build! I wanted the gold to stand out more so i painted mine gun metal with narrow twin gold stripes on the sides backed with black and bright gun metal wheels. It's a nice shelf queen.

Great job my friend. It looks amazing! If you never said anything about the red line, I would never have known or noticed. Because you are a perfectionist much like myself, we always point out the little imperfections on our projects. I try to not to perceverate over the little imperfections and instead look at the project as a whole. Great job. I think you have inspired me to get one of these later down the line in the future.

It doesn’t bother me and it looks fine. I just like pointing out my mistakes as it could help someone else not make the same ones. It’s such a good looking car I’m really happy and just need to get the electronics in it but I can’t yet until the carbon top plate turns up.

Nice job Gav, I was all for the gold wheels (I even saved some in my watch list - and I don’t even have a kyosho!) but after seeing the white on the body I think the wheels look good. Maybe if I build one I might swap the red for metallic gold 😊

Well another great build done Gav and it looks great, I’m thinking that replacing the white with yellow would look bob-on with gold or yellow wheels..🤔, I actually really like the colour scheme on the Optima (Blue/White/Yellow)...decisions to be made..😂👍🏻

I ditched the masking because I just knew it wasn't perfect and like you say white shows every imperfection! I just used a mix of tamiya masking and bend around corners masking! And I didn't bother with the driver figure I just smoked the windows it gives more room for the electrics, good vid anyway👍 roll on re-re Optima mid!

Having an issue getting the Mid redelivered and it’s stuck at a depot 30 miles away. I tried to get it delivered today but that didn’t work. I’ve tried again so fingers crossed it comes tomorrow.

The thing looks beautiful, my problem is I have to drive them very hard with at least a 10.5 turn brushless system in them. I've got plenty of Arrmas but I just have more fun with these kyosho beasts . I've never broken anything unlike Arrmas and traxxas . They're light so they don't smash as hard. Diffs and drive train are great even with a 3.5 turn I can't break my ultima. Just way overpowered! Good fun on the road ,75ks and lifts the wheels ha,ha,

Turbo Optima is a better build and shelf queen especially if you go chain drive. Mid is still a nice build bit a better runner.

Very nice. That looks great you made a very tidy job. Is the Le mans 490 staying in the car or is the plan to put the vintage Le mans 240SB in. The 490 is only a 30 turn motor with a Max RPM of 15400 so its a bit slow for this Optima . The 240 SB as a vintage motor on the other hand is at 19 turn single that spins up to 30000 RPM a much better fit. Keep up the great work and what's the next project CAT XLS ?

I will put the 240SB in the Turbo for sure but I wasn’t sure I was going to be able to get it. The 490 is just for show but I will end up putting it in some 2WD vintage Kyosho. I have to paint the King Cab body and fit the electronics in that but after that it’s the XLS. I would think just over a week.
