During the 60's, we had three of these single cylinder Ski Doos. They were a blast to use as a teen. Later we each got our own faster more powerful sleds. But we had to now trailer them out of town to use. I never felt like the old ones were trying to kill me.

Axle, TOTALLY get it......kind of why I have a couple of 340 sleds and my P12 Panter. If I need to go faster, I add a couple of beers to my face and they are just fine. I have no desire to try and make this 50+ year old iron go fast.... let alone me who is 50. I am happy if it starts and goes back in the trailer on its own power. Thats the WIN these days. Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment!

It's awesome to see people still having fun with the sleds instead of just parking and showing, it's great to see them in action and getting air! Great video 👍

Love that old '67 Colt. We bought one brand new from Beaver Dam Polaris. 300cc Hirth with the muffler by-pass. We had so much fun on that old sled year after year.

Watching this brought back memories of my father-in-law, my dad, and I from the winter of 1969/1970 - 74/75, when we all bought Johnsons and rode together. The 2 dads both bought new 70's and I bought a used 67 model. My sled did not have a kill switch, if you fell off, it kept going until you caught up to it, or ran into an obstacle. My dad also bought a 71 for my mom with reverse on it! There were not any clubs yet down in SE Wisconsin at the start of our riding, not until about '71. We did a lot of bar-hopping back then on our rides, as we all lived out in the country.

@@Letsfixsomething26 Yah, the same thing was done by the early club in our area. A group of us got permission from landowners to make trails, then the club was formed and proceeded to take away our right to ride them unless we joined the club. It was all Lion's club members and the dues were unreasonable, so we all sold our machines and quit riding. When we quit, some of the landowners also withdrew permission from the Club to use their land, in support of us.

Brings back memories. I had a Scorpion Stinger 290 similar to the red metalflake one in your vid. Mine was a solid fire engine red with a matching red set, no backrest. The tunnel mounted engine and narrow stance made it so unstable you could blow on it and it would roll over. Back breakjing bogie wheel suspension and a CCW fan cooled twin that would foul the plug in the cylinder farthest from the fan and the walbro carb would vapor lock above 30 degrees. I put on ski spreaders and ski-shocks, installed chrome louvered panels from inside the hood to help the handling and cooling issues. The crowning touch was installing a speedo so I could see my 57mph top speed runs across the lake lol. My BIL had a 290 Polaris Colt that ran the exact same top speed. We were always last crossing the lakes Good times though!

I had lots of memories on Cats when I was a kid. I buried it once in the middle of the field. My dad let it stay buried for a week or so. I learned my lesson on that one.

Atlas, you'd be surprised how much power a T1B340 can put out (technically 28 HP) after 5 beers. Literally fast enough for me. I get what you are saying. I did a bit of trail riding many years ago, and the liquid courage is a thing....... big time. Thanks for the kind words on this video. Not sure how on earth it got so many views, but hell yea. Have a great winter.

Memories of the late 60's through the 70's here in Stafford NY (Sleds of Stafford) smow mobile club. No groomers but plenty of friendships and lots of home made trails. Mike Murray (Sport Vehicle Village) was known to all here. RIP Mike!

some of the "young folks" today still love old sleds. back in 2016 when I was 16 I got my dad's old 1971 ski whiz 500sst (I didn't see any ski whizzes in this video... kind of sad) and 1969 ski daddler super twin 634cc. since then I have come into possession of a 1978 polaris cobra 440 and I'm repairing a relatives 1980 john deere trailfire. I love getting my hands dirty on an old 2-stroke. It's inspired me to stat my own youtube channel where I fix and ride my sleds, and now I'm branching out into lawn mowers, chainsaws, weed whackers etc.
