Very underestimated watches, with amazing high quality movements and specs. These watches actually cornered the Swiss into ending chronometry competitions in 1969, lest the Japanese win them all.

I have a SEIKO Sportmatic 820 from 1966, and it looks almost identical to the KS you are showing here. Beautiful watches.

Great video. Those are nice watches. Today I got my very first vintage watch. The king seiko 5621 no date version. It's beautiful in virtually mint condition. I paid £1000 and I think it was worth every penny amazingly. I've now got the seiko bug!!

Thanks for the comment and congrats on your King Seiko! The 5621 is definitely my favorite King Seiko.

You forgot to mention about the buckle. King Seikos originally came with a "KS" signed buckle that would normally add at least $200 in value if you were to resell the watch. You can find one separately on Ebay for about $150 USD. Just be aware that the original leather strap does taper from 18mm at the lugs, to 14mm at the end that goes through the buckle, so if you're looking for an aftermarket strap to fit the original buckle onto, make sure you look for one with this spec. Great watches, BTW. They seem to be going up in value lately. I got my 5625-7000 a few weeks ago. Can't get enough of it!

Nice, I have a 6145 and a 5625 - killer, killer combo.

That's either an aftermarket dial, or a dial swap on that KS. It looks more like someone took the dial from a 5626-7000 and dropped it into your 5626-7110. Can you make out the faded number to the right of the 6 o'clock marker? It looks like it says 7000 which I think would confirm my suspicions.
@landerzone26435 жыл бұрын
Definitely a redial. The big giveaway is the spacing on hi beat. The spaces between the E and the A is too large on the redials. Original dials are nice and evenly spaced

I dunno if somebody commented it already but an original dail hase a sunray effect on them so i guess it has a re-dail

The 6146-8000 definitely does not have a sunray dial!

Thanks for the tips. I have a dozen of gs/ks. Another dozen of 'grand' seiko. Always interesting to watch a video like this to learn something new. I have this 6146 8000, and, the 4522 8000, the manual wind version of this watch, which is thinner at 9mm. Both very nice watches.

Do you have a KS 45-7000? If so, how do you like it? Is it better or same than 45-7000 and vs GS?
@QuartzCrisis6 жыл бұрын
I also don't know how to spot a fake medallion based on the pictures. I know vintage GSs well, I even made a guide how to buy them, but this one thing I don't know. I know that the fake ones are gold plated, gold will eventually worn out, so you will know that you got a fake. But once you know it's too late.
@bart76955 жыл бұрын
from your guide I assume this KS is a redial. I's got sharp A-'s in 'japan', bur a T dial.

Nice video. A little note: end of the line King Seiko model such as 5626-8000 actually doesn't have a signed KS crown.

Is there any king Seikos bearing Suwa logo? I only saw other way around
@TimeforaNewWatch5 жыл бұрын
The 5626 and 5625 King Seikos seem to bear the Suwa logo. The Grand Seiko 4520 and 4522 also seem to have the Daini logo on the dial. So there are some exceptions to the rule on both sides.

Both watches have replacement dials..... You need to look, at the letters A in writing fonts, originals, do not have a pointed A; original fonts have a flat top to the, A, not pointed... Your date issue, there is a plastic part used in the movement on the date wheel, you can get a metal replacement......... 50-year-old watches will lose their sharp edges... Your gold medallions are real and fantastic...... You can get the sharp edges re-done by a specialist called a spinner, who will spin your sharp edges to factory condition but it must be a reputable and skilled operative....... Crystals are a lot better today..... Sorry about your dials..... These watches are easy to destroy dials corners or edges, due to watch makers not replacing the correct gasket and osmosis will suck even water vapour into the watch..... The dials only have a micron of lacquer protection so easily damaged and sweat can enter also creating all sorts of nightmare corrosion... The best watch is the screw-down case and original crystal refurbed, I refurb all my crystals..... The gold GS is great but mostly needs refinishing cases and gold plating....... It is worth paying to refurb the watch and clean and oil it for posterity... But a watchmaker will charge you 170 dollars to just strip, oil and repair... Any more work is extra... But that is watch collecting vintage watches for you........ Costly at least it isn't a Rolex etc...

Hi how did you determine the watch was vintage 1971? I just purchased a K45 and wanted to know the year of manufacture.
@TimeforaNewWatch5 жыл бұрын
The first digit of the serial number indicates the year it was made, but not the decade. King Seikos were made from the late sixties to the early/mid seventies, so you can determine the exact age from the serial number. For example if the serial number starts with 9, it must be 1969, if 1 then 1971. This is easy to determine for Seikos that were manufactured for less than 10 years.
@johnsanabria32792 жыл бұрын
The 1st number in the serial number is the year; the second number is the month(1-9 jan.-sep.; 0 is Oct.; nov-dec. is N and D). The last 4 numbers refer to the # of that particular watch.
@johnsanabria32792 жыл бұрын
Let me add something else--Time For A New Watch is correct in that the 1st digit in the serial # is for the last digit of a given year,but newbies need to know when a certain Seiko model was made to figure out what year in a certain span of time.
