In my family you got a HealthKit to build on your 13th birthday. I got a Mohican and a Barlow knife from my great uncle. Later that radio got damaged in postal shipping with an offer to have it repaired, money , or a new kit. I built it again. Now I miss the smell of soldering. I’m sure there are many my age wishing for a Heathkit build. That uncle and my grandfather had among the first ham licenses and were then right down the road from Heathkit. Basement shacks left with empty shelves but copper wire still strung for decades.

Here in the UK, the Heathkit Mohican was a popular SWL receiver back in the day, we're going back to the 70s here. At the time I remember tuning around the shortwave bands at a Ham friends house, with just the built in telescopic whip antenna. Back then of course, there was very little man made electrically generated noise on HF, so you could quite literally hear a pin drop on HF with a very simple telescopic antenna. Oh those were the days for sure, delightful times they were for us budding Hams back then. All in all though, I thought the Mohican was a very nice looking receiver, with it's well laid out Ham bands bandspread tuning slide rule dial. I notice the US Ham bandspread portion looks to be a bit cramped, whereas the UK Ham band segments spread much further, which is very interesting to see. Yes I was impressed with the sensitivity of the receiver, plenty of stations could be heard as I remember. It's nice to see the Mohican in your video, and I'm glad I once had the chance to play with one.

A beautiful radio good job ! I had one in 1989 and got rid of it . I am currently looking for one. The tuning nobe felt like a it was weighted , and so the band spread to. Thanks for the video it brought back good memories. 73

I have a Mohican in great shape that was my husband's. What would the value of this be and is there a market for these?
